"The Bad Seed" - Alan Shore and Shirley Schmidt take on the armed forces when a man's brother dies in a local military hospital due to malpractice. But a friendly wager Denny Crane makes with Alan regarding the outcome of the case could cost Alan his job. Meanwhile, Jerry Espenson's sister, Joy (Annie Potts) - whose son was conceived through an anonymous donor - - asks him to get a ruling which would allow her to find out who the father is to determine if her son and his girlfriend are related, on "Boston Legal," MONDAY, OCTOBER 20 (10:01-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Guest starring are Annie Potts as Joy Espenson, James Rebhorn as Attorney Wade Mathis, Chuck McCann as Judge Byron Fudd, Matt Winston as Ryan Chism, Roma Maffia as Judge Victoria Peyton, David Sullivan as Jason Canfield, BJ Wallace as Henry, Emilee Wallace as Fiona, Nora Dunn as Attorney Cynthia Rhodes and Kent Faulcon as Owen Patterson.

"The Bad Seed" was written by Lawrence Broch & Susan Dickes & David E. Kelley and directed by Bob Yannetti.
No pre-episode thoughts tonight.

It was a good ep. I liked that they had a judge finally find out about the betting between Alan and Denny.

Of course, he only found out because Denny told his clerk.

That twist is what elevated that storyline from "been there, done that" to "outstanding." As we slowly get closer to the series finale, it's nice to see some tension working its way back into what has long been a very carefree show. No, Alan won't get disbarred, and Denny won't be removed as a partner this week, but the clock is ticking...

I agree, I think they are setting up for the firm to fall apart and Murphy Brown will go off and have her name added to the other guy's firm. Then we can have another spinoff!

But the ending will most likely not be anything special or amazing, just a normal episode I think. However the 10th episode has several older characters come back, so who knows what the plan is.

^^^ My eyes, my eyes! Future spoilers! ACKKK!!!!

It would have been a great surprise to suddenly see them pop up in an episode but now ... shit, that's gone.

Sigh.

Anyway, what I was GOING to post is, there's an old thread speculating on what the final episode might entail. Lots of good ideas from fellow posters, too!

Jerry was great. When his sister complemented him on a job well done, he *POPPED* like no tomorrow.

Jerry's sister (Annie Potts) certainly was running for Mother of the Year  And why wasn't the girl's mother involved in any of this?

I was actually surprised and pleased that the sperm donor story resolved the way it did.

Unexpected and really heartwrenching. And Jerry delivered it so well without giving it away first.

I just finally watched this episode late last night.

WOW. I really enjoyed it. There's a lot of set-up for what might happen in the future.

I loved Alan's blow up at Denny. Right or wrong, it's been a long time coming.

Seeing Alan and Denny fight was tough -- I ADORE their friendship. But the squee-hearts returned because Alan forgave him. *HUGS THEM BOTH*

EDIT: I almost forgot -- the wardrobe person needs to be slapped because the division patch on this brass' shoulder is completely inaccurate. My brother happens to be in the 3D Infantry and I know that patch by heart. Jumped right out at me:

Image of the actual design here. Sloppy, sloppy.

I expected "yeah they really weren't related after all" after the two kids left the room. Am I evil

Having finally seen this episode (the Boston TV market didn't run it until 1am last night), I have to say...

Annie Potts needs to play a Petrelli on Heroes! Either a younger Angela or perhaps Angela's sister. Dang, right down to her bitchy bossiness at the beginning of the episode. Just amazing the way she reminds me of Ma P! Wow!

This is very common in TV and movies.

Putting them in a real/authentic uniform would be impersonating an officer. Movies and TV shows ALWAYS make "mistakes" in uniforms for this very reason.

Actually, I thought they tried to make it pretty clear that the kids hadn't had sex yet, and that Joy came to Jerry so that they could find out if the kids were related before they did the deed.

I thought it was predictable I'm afraid.

Well, you DID have a 50-50 shot ... not exactly Deal or No Deal, there. :D

What made it surprising was Jerry's taking of the phone call. With his nervous disorder and his almost smiling, the result wasn't telegraphed ahead of time as it might have been with another character.

I stand corrected. I was feeding my daughter while watching the ep... must have missed that bit.

In that case, the son should be even more grateful.
