Boondock Saints

I just saw this semi-controversial movie on a friend's recommendation. While it certainly leaves the morality of the protagonists questionable, it's a very fun film. I was surprised to learn afterwords that it got almost zero in the way of theatrical exposure, and that a sequel is nonetheless now in post-production which (supposedly) *will* have a theatrical release at more than 5 theaters.

Chalk one up for DVD success stories......

It's about a pair of Irish brothers who, after killing some Russian mobsters in self-defense, believe they have received a mission from God to rid Boston of the evil and corrupt in a more direct way than the police are allowed to; and the FBI agent who's after them for it. There's some very funny lines in there amidst the violence....

"What if it was one guy with six guns?"
"...The day I want the Boston Police to do my thinking for me I'll have a goddamn tag on my toe."
(or something like that.)

Anyone else seen this?

Only about a million times.

This movie is awesome in every respect.

Some great lines

*two homosexuals in bed*

"I only want to cuddle"

"Cuddle?!......what a fag"

Definetly one of those movies that are very enjoyable but not very much sense in it and definetly fits the exploation bill. Not that there's anything wrong with that :D

Great movie.

Willem Dafoe was excellent, as always. And Billy Connelly surprised the hell out of me!

Not all that many movies set in Boston now that I think about it. I'm so used to TV and movies depicting places I'm unfamiliar with (or at best passingly familiar with), that the scenes with the brothers walking through Copley Plaza or the establishing shots of the pepperpot bridge were a bit jarring.

Priest: Would they ever harm an innocent person for any reason?
Smecker: No, they would never do that. Well, the two Irish guys wouldn't, the Italian guy, he might, he's kind of an idiot.

Although set in Boston, most of the filming was done in Toronto. You can see a TD (as in Toronto Dominion) Bank next to the Lakeview Lunch and you can catch the barest glimpse of the CN Tower as Connor is climbing up for the toilet toss.

And who can't love a movie where a bad guy gets killed by a toilet bowl to the head from five stories up?

Doc is the best:
"He left me his c...c...c... his c... c... c... Oh, he fucking gave me this! FUCK! ASS!"

After years in development hell, I'm pretty sure the sequel is in post production now. There's a channel on Youtube for it. Here we go:

Absolutely hilarious movie, don't remember it being controversial though.

I remember after watching it my friends and I would burst into quoting the movie in random public places to alarm of passersby (yes, we were those people).

"There was a fiya-fiiiiiiight!!"

There was talk of a sequel a while back but it never happened. Probably for the best really.

That was so weird after watching that guy every week on Fraggle Rock as a kid.

I think it's beyond talk now. The news I saw said that everyone was back except Dafoe, who's being replaced by Julie Benz.

Ugh. I'm not sure if I dislike the actress or her character on Dexter, but I don't like Darla on Buffy/Angel either. So, let's hope she's more interesting in this!

Great movie. Makes very little sense, sure, but it's so damned fun! I think my favourite scene is the one in the hotel room, where they totally botch their plan but manage to be badass anyway. :D

Yeah, my cousin did that for a while after he'd seen it. He'd go around spouting "FUCK!!! ASS!!!" every now and then and I'd wonder if he had tourettes or something before he told me about the movie. After we both did it of coruse

This film has one of the largest, most devoted cult followings I've ever seen. Mostly among male college students.

Hello?! Did no one see my link to the production diary for All Saints Day?

Once again, the Youtube channel that chronicles the filming and features fan questions to all of the actors involved:

I think I saw on Youtube somewhere there were some production diaries for the sequel, but I'm not sure.

The first time I saw it, I was also watching the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. Made it "interesting'. ;)
