Anyone read the "Book of the New Sun" series from Gene Wolfe before? I'm only into the first part of book two, but a question is already driving me nuts. I don't want to do too much Googling, because I'm afraid of spoiling something big.
So here's my 1 question: Do we ever find out if Severian's friend Dorcas, the young girl with no memory of her past, is also the dead old woman, Cas, that the old man was searching for her body in the river?
The book heavily implies that the river has restorative powers over life, and they find Dorcas shortly after running into the old man. But so far, it hasn't said if Dorcas is really also Cas.
I'm enjoying the books and the fact that not everything is fully explained, but this one thread is nagging at me.
