The "Voice of God" has decided to hang up his announcer's mike.
Damn. I would have liked to hear him announce at the new stadium. His voice is absolutely one of a kind. At least he's not in ill health or anything like that, he's just retiring. Dude's been at it since 1951!
At least Derek Jeter will continue to use the recording (of Sheppard announcing him) as long as he plays for the Yankees. So we'll get to hear some of Shep, at any rate. Also the press dining area at the new stadium is named Sheppard's Place.
