Bob May -The LIS Robot, Passes Away

Very sad. Lost in Space without him, Jonathan Harris and Billy Mumy was, well, undescribable. His voice will be remembered.

Dick Tufeld was the voice. But May had to speak the lines on the set to make the lights blink correctly (there was a switch in the left-hand claw of the robot which you can see move if you watch while he speaks). RIP sir, a thankless task for which I thank you.

The Robot's 'Diode Timer' finally gave out. -From 'A Trip Through the Robot', when the Robot wanders off to the Valley of Shadows to die because the Robinsons can't afford to recharge his battery. Of course growing to the size of a house was just an unexpected side effect...

I met Mr. May about ten years ago at a Grand Slam convention in L.A. He was very cordial, and had only good things to say about his association with Lost in Space. He really loved thr Robot role, and all his fans. RIP Bob.

The Robot was a great character, and a large part of that was down to how Mr May played him - the way he moves is one of the most memorable things about him. Very sad news. :(

Bob May's passing is a sad shame. Robby the Robot was 1 of the “ancestors” of Ash, Bishop, Data, Lore et al.

And right after the deaths of Ricardo Montalban & Patrick McGoohan.

A morbid January so far.
