Does anybody know how they converted the special effect sequences to HD? Did they have to actually re-create the CGI from scratch?

See the "The OFFICIAL STNG-R..." thread. In summary, they had the raw film elements for the shots, so the were able to recomposite the original footage of the models, planets, etc. to reproduce the sequences in HD. As noted in the other thread, in the photos/videos released so far there are some indications of some (high quality) CGI being used, but very sparingly and only when necessary and to create a (nearly) identical recreation of the original sequence.

That thread is soooo long though... I do not blame the OP for wanting to ask this question here.

In short, the ship model footage was all 35mm so that stuff is mostly rescanned in HD now. A few shots are replaced with CG, and all the phasers, most planets and other effect achieved through SD Video back then will be redone with new HD CGI techniques.

I wonder if they're going to improve those fat, super-slow phaser beams from the first season...

Man. I think we need a FAQ for TNG-R pinned to the top of this forum.

If anyone wanted to write that, I'd be more than happy to pin it!

re: this thread, the query's now been answered, so I'm locking this thread as there's already the big thread for ongoing TNG-R discussion.
