One of my favorite video game series ever was the Legacy of Kain series. It's got one compelling storyline with great themes like revenge, fate, and predestination.
I figured I'd talk about the game that started that whole storyline. Especially that of Blood Omen and its theme of revenge.
The most compelling quote from the game series actually inspires aspects of a fanfic of mine.
The quote is thus:
"Vae Victus. Suffering to the conquered. Ironic that I was the one suffering. Not anything as pedestrian as physical pain, rather the cruel jab of impotent anger. The hunger for revenge. All I wanted was to kill my assassins. I didn't care if I was in Heaven or Hell, all I wanted was to kill my assassins. Sometimes you get what you wish for. The necromancer Mortanius offered me a chance for vengeance and like a fool I jumped at his offer without considering the costs. Nothing is free. Not even revenge." - Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain
Mortanius' reply was eerie and succinct too: "Heh heh heh heh. You will have the blood you hunger for."
