Never noticed the numbers off, even though I have owned these books since they were printed. I thought I was observant; I guess I am not!!

I personally favor the Star Trek 10 book with the Klingon ship getting blasted.

Both of those ship images appear to be based on the kit box photos of the time.

Fantoni's painting for [Star Trek 10 (published in 1974) was interesting in that he added paneling (exaggerated) to the surface of the ships--long before that became the design trend in the post-Star Wars era (granted, it was already used on the ships for 1968's 2001: A Space Odyssey, 1970's UFO and Space: 1999 in '75, but both did not trigger the sweeping design change to TV & movie spaceships as in the case of Star Wars).

In fact, the Klingon ship predicts the detail added to its version in Star Trek: The Motion Picture, but it looks so out of place on this cover's ships.
