I was recently digging through some very old post I made on another forum, and I discovered these little gems.

Right after Star Trek 2009 came out, I was overjoyed to have a new look for Starfleet ships, especially the Kelvin. I was also a huge fan of Enterprise, who was supremely disappointed that we never got to witness the Romulan War.

So of course I took my fascination with the Kelvin and my love of Enterprise and mixed them together the only way I knew how.... MS Paint.

I worked out a plot line in my head that the NX Class was expensive and difficult to produce and so Starfleet started building off the design and going with a progressively simplified design. That's where my NY Class started.

I envisioned the NY Class to have started production before the outbreak of the war, hence it being extremely "NX" with its various components. Once the war broke out, Starfleet, not wanting to throw away a good design, started modifying the design. It started relatively minor; armour coverings over warp coils, straight pylons, additional weapon ports, a much simpler Kelvin style bridge, complete with windows. My reasoning with the windows being that the Romulans could have developed various electronic warfare systems designed to mess with Starfleet sensors and such, which could possibly have an effect on the viewscreen. A window isn't always a great option, but it beats flying 100% blind. The additional weapon ports would eventually become similar to the pulse weapons seen on the Kelvin; possibly a sorta CIWS designed to counter Romulan nuclear missiles.

As the war dragged on and times grew desperate, the design of the NY Class would become even further simplified. Stripped away would be virtually every system not related to combat until it wasn't much more then a mobile weapons platform. New weapon systems such as phaser ball turrets would become the new main offensive weapon, while the CIWS were greatly expanded.

When the war was finally over, Starfleet would have found themselves with a surplus of warships, so a massive refit operation was put in place and the NY Class would finally be able to fulfill its original purpose of exploration. This would complete the transformation of the ship from the "Enterprise era" and bring it into the "Kelvin era" of the early Federation.

That Yorktown looks suitably Kelvinistic and I like it a lot.

If the NY Class was to be considered a Starfleet Heavy Cruiser, the NZ Class would be a Light Cruiser.

A medium range ship capable of standing up to the larger Romulan ships of the line. With a maximum speed slightly less then the NX and NY class ships, it would form the backbone of most large fleet operations.

High Warp Interceptor: This ship is exactly what it sounds like. A ship designed to intercept enemy ships at high warp before they can reach their intended targets. They would be equipped with the same design of warp core as the NX Class and be capable of warp 5 for extended periods. These ships would travel in packs for added protection.

System Defender: Another ship on the smaller side. I think of this ship as being Starfleets answer to the Coast Guard Cutter. Sticking close to a selected base of operation, be it an outpost, colony, etc, and acting as its defence/jack of all trades Starship. Much like how the Defiant or the Runabouts were attached to DS9. They would be capable of planetary landings and would likely spend most of their time on the ground as they would often only be deployed as needed. Fairly fast for their size, they would be able to reach warp 4 for a limited amount of time with the high speeds mostly being reserved for very fast trips across a system to intercept an intruding vessel.

Earth Raider: I think it is pretty obvious where I got the idea for this one. And yes, it is supposed to be the same type of ship used by the Maquis, only in its original form. My idea is that because these ships are not capable of high warp speeds, they would be ferried out to their theatre of operation by modified Earth Cargo Service freighters drafted into service and equipped with a warp 4 engine. One freighter could haul three Raiders and then drop them off in an area where they could act as patrol or attack ships. They could also be used for convoy duty with the freighter keeping them attached and deploying them as needed for protection. On their own they would be capable of warp 3 for a limited amount of time. Weapon systems would be potent for a ship of its size and would include a single Photonic Torpedo Tube and duel High Powered Plasma Cannons, much like the ones originally deployed on the NX Class, only heavily upgraded to be more effective.

A couple more to show the scale of them altogether. Note the additional shuttlepod bay variant NY Class.

Hope this wasn't all too much. Home with a sick 5 year old. Just passing the time.

Found one more. The Maxwell Forrest. She's unfinished, but the intent was for her to be a Deep Space Command Cruiser.

I have always wanted the saddle tank type structures on the NX to be alongside a new build secondary hull…

Now here they flattened the NX-01 saucer a Bit and removed the saddle tanks and the squarish block from the saucer in a couple of builds--like the Burke:

Now I was thinking that could all go on the secondary hull---with the impulse drives also being to either side of the cigar hull---part of the pylons---also at the base of the nacelle struts.

The saucer could have smaller versions

I really like these! I never did these with Photoshop but I have some pages of ships that I did when I was a kid but the only difference between them all really was the saucer or nacelles were a bit different. I'm always a fan of ships like Nebula-class with the lower nacelles so that NY is pretty sweet! The Earth raider idea inspirational to a Federation ship is a cool concept because I was thinking separately how the Mirror Universe ended up with Maquis Raiders too and the idea of them existing as an older ship class makes sense. People always point out in the real world B-52s were introduced in 1955 and with modifications will still be flying in 2050s so there is real precedent.

Thank you. Yeah, I always kinda loved the idea of OLD Starships. Something pulled out of a surplus yard, patched up and held together with a hope and a prayer. I always figured that's how the Maquis were getting alot of their stuff.
