Blake's 7 remake scrapped

I don't like the idea of a reimagining. Sure the audio remake was excellent, but I want to see the continuing adventures of the original Universe.

I remember that Afterword book being described to me by a drunk at a party once (Party or a bar, the guy was pissed)... "It's really, really shimple, Servelan didn't want Avon hurt because he's dead sexy, no one fought Villa was worth a ballet, they missed another one und who the fhuck cars about the rast? Zap! Dead! Grame fucking OVER! HAHA! ...Fuck I'm funny."

Last season on Primeval, season before? During a misunderstanding bordering on plot, the Suit is miffed that all his Class A action heroes are dead and buried, looking over Abby and Conner he declaims "This is what I'm left with: Shaggy and Vhelma?"

How many of Blake's 7 have to die before Villa takes point and saves the Universe?

I think I might have posted it, though I don't remember for sure.
It's a shame because I would have liked to see if they could have done it well, but never mind.

Give it to me! I'll reboot the damn thing to Kingdom Come! I'll make BSG llok like a carbon copy!

We dodged a bullet with that, I think.

On the upside, I announced today that I'm doing a lovely huge unauthorised book on the series...

Speaking of ill-advised British SF continuations - whatever happened to the new Red Dwarfs? Did those get canned as well?

from wikipedia.

Speaking on BBC Radio 2, Craig Charles confirmed that two new series were being produced, and that filming begins in January 2011.[54] Chris Barrie revealed that the new series will be counted as series 10.[55] However, a post on the official Red Dwarf website on June 11, 2010 stated that nothing has been confirmed yet.[56]

They've apparently been commissioned but there's been no real movement on it, no contracts signed or scripts written. Doug Naylor said nothings happening yet on Twitter I believe.

^ Where can we get more details about that book? I'm sure no-one would object to a link.

I'll post it when the publisher announces it, which should be this week - but tomorrow's a bank holiday so probably not then.

I just really wanted to do it on the anniversary

They would have needed some extra material to make a mini-series - but would the recent audios and the cast have translated well to the screen? (if nothing else I for one would be interested to see how they would of re-imaged the Liberator).

I'd be for a Blake's 7 Reboot/Re-imagining. Heck, I'd just like them to release Region 1 DVDs.

A continuation would've been really cool, too, though, I'd imagine it's been too long to do a continuation, no? I wouldn't want recasts for a continuation.

I'd like to see that link too :)

In many ways I'm glad the reboot's been scrapped. Means I still have a shot of making the continuation I've had in my head for the last few years ;):guffaw:

Whoever owns the rights is probably waiting for star trek to be dead again properly. The critical success of the new movie mustn't have helped and the average person doesn't really think/remember that the words "Federation" and "Star Trek" are even associated but that logo all the Federation Stormtroopers wear is uncannily already fixed into the international zeitgeist.

How haven't they been sued?

In general I don't much care about remakes / reimaginings / re-whatevers (unless, of course, they're crap - but that's another issue altogether), but B7 is the exception to that generality. I'm glad it'll be left alone. :bolian:

I don't know what I think about this news. Part of me is relieved because in my heart of hearts I doubt it would have been done in a way that I would have been happy with. On the other hand, I am disappointed because I would like to see B7 live again. On the third hand I have given quite a bit of speculation over to wondering who on earth could have taken on (and in my mind, failed in) the role of Servalan. Now I need to fret no more!

And Trek cribbed it from Foundation anyway

Indeed - and it being tilted 90 degrees to point screen-right is how the Trek arrowhead logo is seen on the wall behind Admiral Fitzpatrick in The Trouble With Tribbles (It's actually clearer in the blooper reel)

Yeah, where on Earth are we going to find a camp, sexy woman who doesn't mind dressing glam in a quarry these days...

 Nice try, Starkers, but she doesn't come close for me, I'm afraid. Nice shoes, though. I can see our girl tottering across Virn on those!

Blakes Seven was SO CULTIST a re imagining could only be a more popular spin because British story telling back then was RIPE...not for the easily board.
