I can't say i fully understand the facination for this game, which gathered 2 223 179 players on Steam at one time: https://steamdb.info/app/2358720/charts/

But this looks to be another Elden Ring phenomen, that taken Steam by the storm. Became the 2nd most played game on Steam and 1st for single player games.

New record 2 358 580 players and the reviwes are 96% positive out of 222 678.

Very impressive :techman:

Is anyone playing? I am really weary at such hyped up games, too many burns in the past.

Also quite a few bugs from what i read so best to wait a few months for bugs to be ironed out and the price to come down?

Definitely. Wait for patches and possibly a discount, the game is worth a try, but no need to rush in right away.

I am terrible at this game. lol - Stuck in the Forest of Wolves, trying to level up.

Finished up chapter 4 (of 6) tonight. Loving this game. It looks like a Souls-like in some ways, but it plays a lot more like the recent God of War games in many ways.

I'm also digging the way the story is structured, with each chapter being it's own kind of tale and small threads snaking through the background to unify the story. You have to dig a bit for the meatiest bits in the journal entries for the enemies/bosses, but it's clearer storytelling than something like Elden Ring, at least.

It's a Chinese game about Chinese mythology heavily promoted in China...

It's actually no shock at all that a ton of Chinese people are playing it... the game also has been getting some buzz in... certain circles for having rejected Sweet Baby Inc. who wanted to come in and add "diversity" to the game (I don't even understand "diversity" anymore, a game with an entirely-minority cast of character is not... diverse?)

I personally have little interest. I don't like Souls-like games, and I have exactly zero interest in Chinese mythology.

Well, yes and no. The game is a sequel to Journey to the West, the classic Chinese fantasy novel published in 1592, contemporaneous with Shakespeare's early plays. It's a mythology-based adventure novel rather than straight-up mythology. And the novel is rooted in Buddhist elements of both Chinese and Indian origin, since it's a fictionalization of the Chinese monk Xuanzang's real-life journey to India in the 7th century to study Buddhist teachings and bring them back to China.

And Journey to the West is probably the most popular work of literature throughout East Asia, not just China. It's had dozens of film and TV adaptations in various countries and has influenced a lot of manga and anime in Japan, including Dragon Ball and One Piece.

I stand corrected while remaining equally uninterested.

Finished my first playthrough this evening. I really enjoyed this one. It's not nearly as hard as souls-likes typically are, and the speed and creativity available with all the tools was a lot of fun.

It's not GOTY or anything, but it's the most fun I've had with a game of this type in a long time. Might even play through New Game + in a couple of weeks.
