http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4427328...hole-caught-act-swallowing-star/#.Tlc3_qiPSSo Oh my god. And this picture. Mesmerizing. It's not technically the real thing though but it's still beautiful. http://msnbcmedia4.msn.com/j/MSNBC/...110825-BlackHolePhoto-hmed-0835a.grid-6x2.jpg
Here's a video that actually works unlike the one in the article: [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azLDH9ZPbVs[/yt] (Plus embeds are nicer than some tiny and broken MSNBC window.) What happened to the portion of the star that didn't get devoured and actually faded to black? These jets are deadly.

You know what that animation reminds me of? The old DS9 Companion had a drawing that I think was supposed to represent the Bajoran Wormhole, that looked a lot like that. But that's awesome.
A couple ol weeks ago I found a brand new condition copy at a year-round yard sale for $8. It's an awesome book, really one best Star Trek books ever.
