Bizarre photo of couple making out during Vancouver Riots

A couple photographed in a sensual kiss, lying on the street during the post-Stanley Cup riot in Vancouver yesterday, may now be the most sought-after pair on the internet.
As Vancouver Canucks hockey fans took to the streets after the team lost to the Boston Bruins in the deciding game of the Stanley Cup, Getty photographer Rich Lam snapped the candid photo.
The photo is quickly turning into the latest internet meme, with photoshopped versions already popping up.
Lam today told MSNBC he didn't realise what was going on when the frame was shot. People were being pushed by police out on the streets, when he spotted two people on the ground, he said.
Lam's first instinct was that they were hurt.
"I looked back and thought someone was injured and I shot that. I framed it up, juxtaposed with the policemen."
He gave the images to the photo editors who were processing shots of the mayhem.
A while later, another photographer from the Getty team came up to Lam and said "nice picture of the couple kissing".
"Oh my God - they're making out!" he said.

Pretty much just in Canada as far as I know. Vancouver in 1994 (when they lost the cup), yesterday, Montreal at various points throughout the years IIRC.

It's stupid, but no more so than any other kind of sports-related violence.
 
clearly they get turned on by riots? there really are some strange fetishes out there.
 
I don't understand it either. You'd think people would get their fill of violence on the ice.

As the old joke goes--I went to a boxing match, and a hockey game broke out.
 
I couldn't believe a couple of kids would lay down in the street and start making out in the middle of a riot. A closer look at the original photos only shows the guy's face, not the girl's. So I wonder if it just looks like they're kissing because of the angle at which the image was captured.
 
They've managed to accomplish one of my goals, which is to have sex in the middle of a riot.
 
I’m not too familiar with the capabilities of modern cameras. Can an autofocus camera capture a perfectly sharp image in the middle distance like that, while the foreground and background are blurred?

I thought that it was common knowledge that Canadians were really batshit crazy about Hockey? The Canucks fans have rioted twice already after their team lost the Stanley cup, not sure why people are acting surprised about this happening. :shrug:

It really was shitty planning by the mayor and the cops, letting this get out of hand AGAIN.

Yep, quite easily. At least any decent SLR can.
