Most people don't know its going on right now, and in truth I am only here due to a special assignment, but I have to admit, Birmingham is putting on a pretty amazing show. The World Games are run in conjunction with the International Olympic Committee, they tend to be more obscure sports that won't make it into the actual Olympiad. There are over 3000 athletes from around the world here to compete in these games, many of these sports I never heard of:
Breakdancing, tug of war, dancesport, bowling, Lifesaving, Canoe marathon, canoe polo, orienteering, flag football, kickboxing, muay Thai, sumo wrestling, jiu jitsu, precision archery, fistball, floorball, aerobic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, ultimate frisbee, trampoline, fin-swimming, parkour, inline speed skating, inline hockey, freestyle inline skating, korfball, parasailing, raquetball, powerlifting, wheelchair rugby, lacrosse, softball, squash (I honestly thought that WAS in the Olympics) , boules, petanque, beach handball and probably some others that I missed.
Going to see the floorball matches today with a few hours off. Did not know what floorball was yesterday.
Tickets are cheap and a portion of it goes to Ukrainian athletes.
