BioShock might get a new director

"The bottom line is it has to shoot out of the States for budget reasons and my schedule may be prohibitive," said Verbinski. "There's a great script and a really interesting cast. It really comes down to the financial model now. Big movies are just not being shot in the States. I'm weighing whether I can physically go the U.K. or Australia or one of those other places with a tax rebate for a year-and-a-half."

Looks like Gore Verbinski is getting cold feet. I doubt the movie even gets made at all now. They should just get it over with and hire Uwe Boll or McG to be the director.

They're whoring out the game franchise... so there's no reason why they can't just hire Michael Bay Jr. aka McG.

I find Gore Verbinshi's comments to be odd. I mean the guy did the two POTC sequels together which he spent like a year doing away from the US. So did the experience on the sequels just put him off traveling? Seems like he just doesn't want to do this or is holding out for a bigger paycheck.

I suspect the project will sit in limbo for a while longer. Eventually, an awful (but cheap) director will somehow get attached. The script will get a re-write by a witless hack. The movie shoots on a shoestring budget to please the studio and the film is a massive failure.

Isn't that the way these video game adaptations always work?

Translation: "Disney doesn't trust anyone else with Pirates 4 and have thrown more money my way than the producers of Bioshock."

This is becoming a trend. Seems like every time it looks like there's going to be a quality video game to film adaptation (for once), the star director attached to the project quits. We had this a few years ago with Peter Jackson and the now seemingly dead Halo movie.
