Bioshock 2 DLC already on Disc

It looks like 2K are about to hit the proverbial shit storm after some eagle eye fan spotted that the DLC for BS2 came in at a massive 108k to download on the 360 and 24k on the PC, that's some compression........and 2K reason for this.

The way our engine and game structure works is that people need to have the exact same content for people to play together. One of the challenges with post launch content for MP is that it can split the player base, and we want to avoid that whenever possible. For this content, creating the DLC package the way we did allowed for us to not split the player base – so whether you purchase the new content or not, you can still play with your friends.
Bioshock 2 DLC on disc

Oh dear...I'm not a big fan of DLC myself as once i finish a game i rarely come back to it, but if its on the disc at launch can it really be classed as DLC.

The saga continues.

That's hilarious. I've always thought that in most cases 'DLC' translates to 'content that should've been in the original release but was deliberately held back for later price-gouging of the consumer', but I never expected Publishers/Devs to be so blatant about it.

I think this is fairly common. I know IL2 Sturmovick for 360 had some DLC (extra planes and missions) that turned out to just unlock DLC on the disc.

The flip side, of course, is that if developers just include all the content and then never provide anything extra, the gaming community screams that they demand DLC.
