As one of the biggest Bionic Fans around, this some of the happiest news I have heard in a looonnnnng time.

It looks like the rights issues with Martin Caidin and the other studios over The Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman have finally been resolved.

Both series may be released on Region One DVD as early as Fall 2010. Plans include remastering and the recording of new bonus materials. I am so excited!

Here is the original articles from TV Shows On DVD:

Oh sure, NOW they get around to it, after I spent a shitload of money on blank discs and cases, and converted the entire Bionic Woman series to DVD-R from my old tapes, and have done most of the Six Million Dollar Man tapes......

All children leave the room, Uncle Randy is gonna toss around a few colorful metaphors.:scream:

Still, It would be nice to have clearer copies. But I'll reserve judgement until I have them in my hands.

this sounds like the start of a Hitler video.

Well, This is intresting however in 2006 I came across a complete set of both series for bargain price. So how much will they charge for this, you get extras, uncut quality picture / sound, this is good if not very late to arrive. Q: how will the extras differ from the Region 2 edition. I am alittle skeptical.

I may get the first season was when I was into it. I'd really like the original pilot. After that I'm not sure. I couldn't care less for the Bionic Woman.

Funny, I did the exact same thing a few years ago, tranfered all my old VHS to DVD.

But I will definitely be ordering the entire series as it comes available. About a year ago I ordered Region4/1 Mexican version LE HOMBRE NUCLEAR, as it retained the original English language version on the dvds, and let me tell you, the picture quality was INCREDIBLE!!! After watching the syndicated washed-out version for years, it was like switching to HD in quality. For this reason alone I will be picking up the series as it comes available.

A silly question/notion, perhaps, but I wonder -- since they'll likely redo the audio -- if they're considering going in and adding the "bionic" sound effects to the earlier seasons? At first I would've been "Yeah, sure, go for it," but thinking on it, I really like "Population: Zero" when Steve is powering up after the cold's affected his bionics, and all you hear is the increasingly rapid heart beat as he shakes off the cold and ramps back up to full bionic cruise mode.

Name the episode:

Steve Austin tells a villainous robot maker that his robot "squeaked when he walked." Robot maker is outraged by Austin's comment.

I'd rather they didn't alter the original presentation of the episodes.

All I can say upon hearing the news is AT LAST! I've been waiting for such a release for 30 years -- not a word of exaggeration. And if Time-Life gives them the same treatment as they did Man from UNCLE and Get Smart, we're in for some great releases.

And I'm sure someone will complain if they don't do a Blu-Ray. Right now I'll be happy with what I can get (besides I was watching UNCLE on my 42-inch 720 plasma the other day and it looked fantastic. SMDM/BW will look fine, too).

Which is exactly why they should not change a thing. I loved the early episodes that didn't use the sound effects. And in fact I would have preferred the heartbeat used throughout. As others have mentioned, they should present the episodes as originally broadcast. Save the altering B.S. for Star Trek.

I assume that "complete set" was of the "wink-wink, nudge-nudge" variety as even Region 2 hasn't seen a complete release. As I understand it they only got the first season or 2 of SMDM and the first year of BW. So there isn't a complete set of extras in the R2 version -- if there were any. I've never heard of there being any extras; I thought the R2 version was vanilla.

Odds are these would be newly made extras anyway, produced for the US company.

As for cost -- assuming the Time-Life connection is made as is being reported, look at the Get Smart and Man from UNCLE sets Time Life did. Cost and format will probably be similar. This falls into the "cost is no object" category. It won't likely be more than $200 and even if it is, $200 amortized over 30 years isn't bad at all. I've been saving up since Jimmy Carter was president and the VCR first started its ascent.

And if they're planning to include the post-series TV movies per the report, there's potential for a bunch of other vintage extras, too. I'm hoping for a set of the Kenner Toy commercials and a PDF-format archive of the Charlton comic books and SMDM magazine.

The only bummer is if they go the Time Life route, that means we'll have TL selling them for a year before they turn up in the stores. But I was impressed with the quality of that UNCLE set, enough that I'd sign up rather than wait another year...

I agree.

The first time we heard that "bionic" sound effect was in "Day of the Robot", but applied to John Saxon's wild swings.
I always loved that crunching metallic impact sound effect as those two fought; same one was used when Austin deflected the falling steel girder away from Gary Collins in "Doomsday, and Counting".
That impact sound effect used in later seasons was just ridiculous, like flapping a wooden ruler on the edge of your desk in school. (What the hell's that supposed to be?) Hope they don't add that one to the first season.

I also really liked that whole end sequence in "Population: Zero", especially the realistic touch of Austin's shirt being sweat-stained on his chest and left sleeve, while the right sleeve remained bone dry!

@Bad Bishop: That would be "Run, Steve, Run".
The Dr. Dolenz eps are my favorites from those first seasons.
That fight with John Saxon simply rocked.
Remember, in "Return of the Robot Maker", how Austin could tell which was the real Oscar Goldman: "Robots don't sweat when they're nervous."

I wonder just what will be included with the 6Mil DVDs?

When the story of Steve Austin started, it was only a few occasional "movie of the week" type showings, and if memory serves at first they didn't even depict him as former military. Seem to recall him being a civilian test pilot. It was later, once the weekly series started, that they called him Colonel Austin.

Also, in the original movie, Oscar wasn't even there. Some other character was in the "boss/govt. man" roll.

Certainly the cheesetastic intro that got replaced in syndication...

Yikes! I don't recall ever seeing that until just a few minutes ago. So glad they changed it!

(I wish YouTube had the original version of the series intro, with the pure "buzz tone" at the end. Kinda liked that one better.)

Here's a cool video about the M2-F2 crash footage we saw in the intro...

(It was cool standing under it at Air & Space, watching that footage running on the little kiosk.)

There was a song?? :guffaw: Ohh, that was hilarious! Interesting... I didn't know the expression "He's the man" dated back that far.

Always nice to see Alan Oppenheimer, though. He was a much cooler Rudy Wells than Martin E. Brooks, because he went on to be Skeletor!

Alan was an old schoolmate of my Dad's! Just saw him last year at a memorial service, and he still looks the same as he did on SMDM! It's like he aged to that point and went no further.
