I was just rewatching TNG's Liaisons, and it got me thinking. If it were possible to get all of one's dietry needs from a pill (or wafers like the Iyaarans), would you go for it? Much as I love certain foods, I've often found this idea quite a tempting one. I have a pretty bad relationship with food at times anyway, so I can see the appeal of reducing it to something entirely utilitarian. What do you think? Would you give up your favourite foods in exchange for never having to count calories, or plan meals, or buy and cook dinner ever again?
Only if I could still eat real food, say one meal a day. Then it would be good in that I get all the nutrients I need, but still can enjoy food when I want to. That would seem like a good compromise to me.
The option might be nice, but the real advantage to such a thing would be to help people suffering from malnutrition.
Well, it gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "drug lunch." I guess it would also make lunchtime less about the food and more about the Sudoku. But I'll stick to my meal deals and home water, all the same. "You might say that... I couldn't possibly comment."
This is somewhat true, of course, but nonetheless the idea of giving up good food - let alone good alcohol - in favour of a single pill or nutrient wafer smacks painfully of life in some sort of grey totalitarian hellhole absent of life and joy! To compensate for your heresy, I've chosen tonight to finally get round to joining the Wine Society. Should make future purchases simpler.
Quite right. We simply use them to deal with the long-term cardiovascular after effects of the brownies/cookies instead. See, Mankind really does have a sense of due perspective on these matters!
No. Specifically, HELL no. I enjoy eating and drinking far too much. No way am I gonna settle for some stupid pill. I mean, that wouldn't even fill your stomach, would it? You'd be hungry all the time.
It sounds as if it might be more convenient at times, but no, I enjoy food too much to do that. Deriving all of the necessary nutrition from pills or wafers might be healthy, but I don't think I'd find it at all satisfying.
Would the pill prevent us from being hungry during the day? I would probably have to try it out first (to see what my body felt like without food cravings).
