I've been looking at you tube interviews that Bill Shatner and Leonard Nimoy did, both together and separately. I came across this clip that Bill Shatner did two days before his friend passed away. I thought you all might like to see it

I had to wonder if Bill understood where the Vulcan salute came from. I also wonder when they became close, towards the end of the original series or later on after it went off the air.

Considering both men were raised Jewish, and as far as I know have been practicing Jews all their lives, if Bill Shatner does not know where Leonard Nimoy got the salute from, I'd be very surprised.

I am Jewish, but not Orthodox, so until Leonard mentioned the Rabbis blessing the congregation I didn't know that is where that symbol comes from. Leonard was brought up in an Orthodox family, I don't think Bill was.

From what I understand, they became closer during the movie era. The rivalries of the show would've been ancient history by that point, and they had more life experiences in common by then.
