Big Finish will outlive us all

Rich Watson

Commodore
Commodore

In 2035 Tom Baker will (theoretically) be 101, Peter Davison 84, Colin Baker 92, Sylvester McCoy 92 and Paul McGann 76.

I guess Jon Culshaw (a positively youthful 67) will be playing everybody!

Some of their content is a little too self-aware/postmodern at times, especially for the Classic era incarnations where it feels completely wrong when not merely off, there's still a lot of fun to be had from earlier - and present - releases. Glad they're still going!

Damn, that's gonna a hell of a long run. I think that point they will probably have been doing consistent releases longer than either of the versions of the show.

Just an addendum to this.

Jason Haigh-Ellery, Big Finish owner, is now the owner to the rights of all of Terry Nation's work, including his share of the Daleks. So if the BBC want to use them again they'll need his permission. Which is probably why they were happy to give him a nine-year contact.

Also explains why he's producing the recently announced latest attempt at a Blakes 7 reboot.

Oh, damn, I didn't know that was the case. When did that happen?

And you're right, that does explain why he's producing the Blake's 7 revival.

i think in my opinion big finish will out live all of the doctors and there compainions in the audio books verisons

and why because all of there adventures that ended on the tv verisons will still continue on audio books till who knows when

even thought past cast members who were on the tv show verisons ended but the doctors and the companions are in a way still part of doctor who but in the audio books verisons

Though I believe their recording rate is much higher than the release rate so they could still release classic doctor stories for some time if the the actor passes which has been the case with David Warner’s unbound Doctor.

But it would it’s also something they’ve had to deal with in other ranges.

David Collings passed during the recording of The Robots series and Paul Darron’s dying leaded to a rewriting and getting creative with the final classic crew Blake’s 7 box set,

Gotta say, I'm really behind on a lot of releases - I only keep up when I do with the Eighth Doctor and the NuWho Docs these days - but gotta say, thank God for BF in all honesty. They really did such a heavy lift for the 80's Doctors during the Wilderness gap and even during the RTD1/Moff eras, it needs to be aknowledged. Also, they single-handedly branded McGann's Doctor, who is my all-time favorite Doctor by now.

I'm waiting for Jackie Tyler to make a guest appearance in every release for a year straight.:guffaw:

Outside of Who (and its spinoffs), I did listen to their Highlander sets. In fact, its through Highlander that I got into Doctor Who.

So here's hoping Bond gets more folks into Who, one way or another.
