I meant to post this news the other day when the news broke but got distracted and forgot, and only remembered when I went to the site to download the recently released Gallifrey: Time War 2 set.

Series six of Early Adventures will feature Ajjaz Awad as Katarina in an adventure, out in November 2019, where The First Doctor, Steven, and Katarina meets The Second Doctor, Jamie, and Zoe.

When Zoe reattaches an old piece of equipment to the TARDIS console, she, Jamie and the Doctor are very lucky to avoid a collision. But the place they find themselves in may be even more dangerous - because there they encounter another Doctor, a space pilot called Steven... and a young woman called Katarina who really shouldn’t be there....

In Daughter of the Gods, Frazer Hines as the Second Doctor and Jamie, and Wendy Padbury as Zoe are reunited, continuing to travel the cosmos. But then they bump into someone they should really avoid...

Peter Purves returns as Steven Taylor and takes on the mantle of the First Doctor. Plus, joining him, in a Big Finish first, is Ajjaz Awad (Stones, Holby City), playing the lost companion Katarina.

David K Barnes tells us more about this unlikely resurrection, and how to write a story where Time Lords collide... “From the beginning, I had so many exciting elements to play with. Contrasting the fun and frolics of the Troughton years with the darker days of the late Hartnell era was something I wanted to get my teeth into, with the Daleks providing their customary threat.

“However, I always knew what the core of my story should be. What could possibly bring the two Doctors into conflict, on the opposite sides of a dilemma?

“It could only be the fate of Katarina…”

Buried in the story is The Second Doctor, Jamie, Polly, and Ben encountering a new version of The Master.

First Kamelion, now Katarina, and we're getting Liz Shaw back soon in the next Third Doctor boxset... we seem to have a theme of 'the forgotten Companions' going this year. Will Dodo, Harry Sullivan or Grace Holloway be next?

I still cling onto a hopeless dream that Jackie Lane will finally say yes to just one story, but I know it's the longest of shots. We're more likely to get Christopher Eccleston (since he has indicated he would be interested in doing radio in general) than Lane back as Dodo.

Plus Nicholas Briggs and David Richardson have indicated that in the last year or so Eccleston has softened from a hard yet polite "No thank you, but thanks for asking." to a softer "We'll see." I still think we're a ways out from Big Finish Eccleston stories actually being a reality, but it's certainly within the realm of possibility now.

As I understand it, there are copyright issues over the Grace Holloway character, which is why when Daphne Ashbrooke did a Big Finish audio, she played a different character.

Big Finish can only use what the BBC contributed to the movie: the Doctor, the TARDIS and the Master. Also, the funny-sounding Daleks, but do we really want them?

EDIR - quick question. At the time, was the Tipple Master supposed to be the Ainley Master, or was he just another evil-goatee incarnation?

I'd be first in line to buy that.

I would only accept Liz Shaw a recast if we'd finally have a story with the Doctor and her on the TARDIS, post-Three Doctors. That'd be neat, for her to actual become a proper companion instead of being his UNIT liaison or whatever.

It's a Dalek situation, where the ownership is split among different parties. In the case of Grace, she's jointly owned by Vivaldi and the BBC. Doctor Who Magazine used her in the eighth Doctor comics and were told not to do that again, but they snuck her into "The Flood" and didn't name her. IDW used Grace in Prisoners of Time, and I don't know if they were aware of the ownership issues.

EDIT - quick question. At the time, was the Tipple Master supposed to be the Ainley Master, or was he just another evil-goatee incarnation?

I think they meant for him to be Ainley without actually having to hire Ainley (who by then was rich enough to demand too much money and script control). Otherwise they wouldn't have had him in the background and shadow, or dropped the monologue he was originally going to do at his trial (in Tipple's voice).

Ainley was always rich enough not to have to work. He enjoyed attention, and the pleasure of being able to say No if he wasn't offered enough.
