News Big Finish announces 20th anniversary special, "The Legacy of Time"

Big Finish just announced that the fifth Doctor story in The Legacy of Time, the title of which had been under wraps, is called “Relative Time,” and will, as fans had been speculating, feature a meeting between the fifth Doctor and Jenny.

Brilliant! That should be a lot of fun.

Hopefully there well be a surprise Tenth Doctor cameo, too.

I finished listening to the set tonight. It’s a lot of fun. The stories aren’t especially innovative or profound (though the opening 8th Doctor/Benny/River story, “Lies in Ruins,” is more thoughtful than the rest, and probably the best of the lot), but they don’t need to be; this is a celebration, and it does the job fine by offering several lively, traditional adventures with well-loved characters. The finale falls a little flat. Nothing much happens for too long, and then too much happens all at once, and the epic nature of events doesn’t remotely come through. But by that point I felt enough goodwill toward the whole set that I couldn’t mark it down for not sticking the landing as much as I otherwise might.

They are live-streaming audio episodes today:

I finally got a chance to listen to the last episode, I really enjoyed this set.

it was great to hear Charlie and Six back together. This was my first time hearing Tim Treloar do Pertwee and I was pleasantly surprised.

Big Finish announced today their upcoming 20th anniversary special, The Legacy of Time. Looks like they're packing everything in:

Fanservice up the wazoo, woohoo!

River and Benny finally meet!

Wait, I thought everyone was wanting her and Jack to meet?

The long-awaited return of Menzies!

What adventure were they first in?

Kate Stewart travels back in time and meets The Third Doctor and Jo!

I'm admittedly curious, the show's long history with Lethbridge-Stewart makes it a decent exception to the rule of not embracing small universe syndrome for cheap ratings.

More Romana and Leela!

Never understood why Leela would be allowed to stay whereas Sarah and others could not but some simple throwaway fanon (helped save the planet) is good enough for me.

And so much more!

In 2019 Big Finish will celebrate 20 years of creating Doctor Who stories on audio, and it’s doing so in style with The Legacy of Time – the biggest audio crossover event ever! Six hour-long stories see characters from the entire history of Doctor Who crossing paths – some for the very first time – Classic and New Series Doctor Who will collide!

Professor River Song (Alex Kingston) meets her predecessor, another time-travelling archaeologist, Professor Bernice Summerfield (Lisa Bowerman). Kate Stewart (Jemma Redgrave) travels back in time to classic UNIT and meets the Third Doctor (voiced by Tim Treloar) and Jo Grant (Katy Manning).

As 2018 is also the 30th anniversary year of their first appearance in Remembrance of the Daleks, the Counter-Measures team will be reunited with the Seventh Doctor(Sylvester McCoy) and Ace (Sophie Aldred). And the Sixth Doctor (Colin Baker) and his companion Charlotte Pollard(India Fisher) once again meet Detective Inspector Patricia Menzies (Anna Hope) in a police procedural like no other!

Plus we go to Gallifrey, and elsewhere we enter the Time War. Doctors will meet, and there will be Easter Eggs aplenty.
I'm definitely pre-ordering this right away. July can't come soon enough!

I'll check it out as well, thanks for namedropping! Big Finish has been cool, giving new life to so many Doctors and expanding possibilities, including stories adapted for the 2005-present revival and even if some of them are stuck on present day Earth despite not being bound by budgetary restrictions in a way that didn't even stop them in the 1960s! :D

Wait, I thought everyone was wanting her and Jack to meet?

Two time-travelling archaeologists? How could you say no?

What adventure were they first in?
The Condemned, the Sixth Doctor story when he meets Charley. There’s also another one (Industrial Evolution? The Crimes of Thomas Brewster) with Sixie, but it’s set previously from Menzies’ POV, but after, from Sixie’s POV.* It’s an Evelyn/Thomas Brewster story.

I'm admittedly curious, the show's long history with Lethbridge-Stewart makes it a decent exception to the rule of not embracing small universe syndrome for cheap ratings.

I wish they’d introduce other characters spanning so many Doctors.

*or the other way around. I can never remember. No, wait. Evelyn is before Charley, so yeah, right the first time.

I finally finished the series the other day but forgot to post about it.

Overall, I enjoyed it and I like who turned out to be the Big Baddie (because of course). Benny and River butting heads was delightful as I expected. It was so wonderful to hear The Sixth Doctor teaming up with Charlie and Menzies once again (I can only hope Menzies will return again sooner than later). As expected, The Fifth Doctor meeting his daughter was as cantankerous and charming as I could hope! Kate getting to meet The Third Doctor was sweet although
not nearly as sweet as her speaking to her father, trying not to let on to him who she really was but we all know he figured it out. Jon Culshaw's performance as the Brig was so good, I wasn't sure if they had somehow utilized unused audio and/or spliced dialogue together for the moment.

I was initially disappointed that final story wasn't The Fourth Doctor and Leela and The Fourth Doctor and Romana meeting or The Fourth Doctor meeting Gallifrey-era Romana and Leela, but how that story played out was ultimately a lot of fun. I especially liked
the surprise appearances of The Tenth, Second, and First Doctors to pitch in to help!

Yeah, we all hoped Tennant, Hines, and Bradley would show up but it was still brought a great big grin on my face when I realized what was happening. :D
