Big Bang SHATNER!!!

Maybe this is somewhere else on this site, but I just read that THE BIG BANG THEORY will move to THURSDAY NIGHTS, and be followed by Shatner's The SH-T MY DAD SAYS. Its a gamble, going up against NBC's comedies, but I think EARL and 3rd Rock and whatever else they have on NBC suck anyway...

Wow..shatner could have a very big hit on his hand...go bill!!! To follow the number one comedy on TV (Big Bang over took 2 and half man) and Big Bang caters to the scifi crowd..and who better to follow Big Bang than Mr. STAR TREK himself...WILLIAM SHATNER!!!

Rob

I'm disappointed now. Your slightly misleading thread title lead me to think Shatner was going to appear on TBBT.

reading Deadline Hollywood Daily, Sheldon did make an apperance at the CBS upfronts, and shared the stage with William Shatner.

CBS would be crazy not to make hay with this.

especially after Sheldon's anti-kirk statement last week! But since he was wrong about FIREFLY and IPODS, I figure he was wrong about Kirk too...

Earl was cancelled last year, and 3rd Rock From the Sun hasn't been on in like a decade.

30 Rock, on the other hand, is great. Crazy. Possibly the funniest show on TV.

Big Bang theory is one of the other three comedies I watch. Good thing I just torrent everything, I don't care if they end up airing at the same time.

Yeah...right. BIG BANG THEORY is going to come to thursday nights, at 8pm, and pretty much destroy NBC's 8-9 line up. Community and 30ROCK at 9-930?? HA HA HA HAH!!!. The only people who watch 30ROCK are liberal whackos (IMO) and Baldwin's family (his daughter at gun point I bet). The office? That show is running on fumes and was crushed by Survivor. CSI is going to destroy it too..

NBC??? LOL!!!

That's a nice thought, but I don't think it's realistic. "The Big Bang Theory" is still a very 'niche' show with a very 'niche' audience, while "Community", "Parks & Recreation", "Modern Family", "30 Rock" and "The Office" are mainstream juggernauts with much larger audiences and (I presume) much higher ratings. I like "Community" and "The Office" (not so much lately, but was a big fan for many, many seasons) and at the moment I like "The Big Bang Theory" more than any other show I've listed here, but I doubt it could make much of a dent in the ratings of those shows. I would worry that being moved to such a competitive night for television would hurt its ratings.

Also, about the references to "My Name is Earl" and "3rd Rock from the Sun"! Especially the second one. You must remember that show so vividly to the point where you'd imagine it's still around because you loved William Shatner's recurring role on it so much, right? :p On a sadder note, this new show Shatner is doing sounds pretty lame. From playing Captain Kirk to playing the stereotype of a foul-mouthed old person (based on some stupid Internet joke? :wtf:) is a pretty sad career turn. I respect Shatner being prolific and continuing to get fairly high profile acting gigs so late in his career, but I'd prefer if he'd retire with dignity instead of further tarnishing his legacy by making a crude caricature out of himself.

I take it you don't pay much attention to the ratings. The Big Bang Theory is a ratings juggernaut. It's currently the highest rated comedy on the air. Its episode this week drew 15.020 million viewers (compared to 13.279 million viewers for Two and a Half Men, which is currently the second-highest rated comedy). Modern Family is the #3 comedy, drawing 10.136 million viewers with this week's episode. The Office is NBC's biggest comedy. Its episode this week brought in 6.6 million viewers. Community, Parks & Recreation, and 30 Rock are niche shows. Their episodes this week drew 4.4 million, 4.5 million, and 5.4 million viewers respectively.

^^ Bingo!! The only reason why 30rock is still on? Its because, like BOSTON LEGAL (which I loved) its a media darling to the liberals out there (and tv insiders). It has awful ratings, and is often confused with (as I do all the time) 3rd rock from the sun, that's how 'unknown' it is.

BIG BANG THEORY is a ratings bonanza. And, its far better and funnier.

Rob

What about 30 Rock would "liberals" find appealing? Its a work place comedy with wacky co-workers and a crazy boss, not unlike most sitcoms.
