If it's true then it's the most expensive Trek movie yet.

A Big risk and a worrying one for me, I think Beyond will see further erosion in the domestic Box Office so any increase overseas will see little increase if any in the overall total.

Nothing about this movie worries me so far.

If true, so much for the narrative of an underperforming STID causing Paramount to decrease STB's budget.

    It's the 50th Anniversary.

They were bound to splash out a bit...

But the narrative has been that they took a bath on Into Darkness, losing a ton of money. If that was the case, 50th anniversary or not, Paramount wouldn't be spending north of $200 million on Beyond.

Well, the narrative appears to be incorrect. Whodathunk?

The naysayers have been wrong at every single step...why should they be right now?

Well, if you keep guessing long enough, eventually you'll be right. Or, ya know, they were kinda right that one time about a year ago but that's about it.

The Talifans make shit up and attribute it to "insider" sources. All lies.

Well if it can match ST09s domestic and ID's global, then 500 is an easy get, with 600 not being out of the question.

If it's marketed well, reviews are positive, and ID4-2 flops, then 750 isn't out of the question. (And early scuttlebutt suggests King Arthur is going be a boner.)

If true, I'm very surprised. The whole trailer just screams "cheap". The sets especially. If someone had said the budget was half what STID was I'd have believed them. The alien planet in particular just looks so uninspired and dull, ditto the structures on it.

Looks super pricey to me. Nutrek does better with alien planets than most franchises.

Definitely looks different to Star Wars, at least.

Exactly. I think Justin Lin's name being attached to it helps a great deal, considering his last film garnered 3/4 of a billion dollars worldwide.

I mean, I don't know if STB would pull that off, but if it did, I would be mighty impressed. Also, somewhat gloaty. :D

I recall that the movie was supposed to cost less just by moving filming from California to Canada. So it's surprising that the budget is higher.
Maybe Paramount is planing a bigger promotional push this time?

The trailer showed scenes reminiscent of TOS.

In fact, they'd have to film at Vasquez Rocks for it to be any closer to TOS.

    :)

Maybe $200m is a bit too high and wrongly reported.

Can you spend that much on a film where the script was written in 6 months, the film shot in 4.5 months and post production only has 7 months max?

Let's face it. The final cut would have to be ready by mid-June.

I'm not a movie insider but anything is possible.

Are Paramount suits so shallow that just because Justin Lin is involved, they might cough up more money than STiD?

So far, nothing screams low budget bottle episode to me.

I suspect the budget will be closer to $175m but who knows with Hollywood accounting.

One this is for sure. They made money on STiD
