Beyond the TREK!!!

What are your top five movies that had a STAR TREK actor/actress (meaning a regular) in a primary role. So it can't just be a cameo, has to be a meaningful part. And it must be a movie, not a TV show or a made for TV movie; MOVIES only...

Rob
Scorpio

Pet Semetary with Tasha Yar, because that movie scared the crap out of me when I was little.

I loved jean-luc in the ex-men movies, thought he did a really good job.

Two spring to mind, and fine examples of movie making they are, too...

Shatner - Secrets of a Married Man
Stewart - Safehouse.

Independence Day - Brent Spiner
X-Men: X2 - Patrick Stewart
Osmosis Jones - William Shatner

Under your conditions I don't have five, Rob. This is all you get.

Wow, i thought I was the only who liked OSMOSIS JONES...
here are my five...

Miss Gongeniality (Shatner)
American History X (Brooks)
Xmen 2 (Stewart)
Terry Ferrell (Back to School)
Rene Aujobonis (MASH)

and honorary mention
Deforest Kelly..Night of the LEPUS!

Unfortunately, most of these are just cameos, only one or two scenes. :(

X2: X-Men United
L.A. Story - Patrick Stewart (he's basically playing a caricature and probably in the movie for less than ten minutes, but it's a wonderful comedic performance)
American History X - Avery Brooks
The Muppets Take Manhattan - Gates McFadden (as Cheryl McFadden, in the movie for about 30 seconds)
48 Hrs. - Denise Crosby (Another cameo, but it was great to see Tasha in only one scene where she attacks Eddie Murphy with a baseball bat and swears constantly :))

It's a shame Star Trek actors don't get many great movie roles. It would be nice to own more movies featuring them that aren't Star Trek movies. Especially ones I love as much as X2 - one of my top ten favourite movies and a great rebound for Patrick Stewart after Nemesis. It's not a movie, but Armin Shimmerman was delightfully slimy as the villainous principal in the "Buffy the Vampire" TV series.

I'm echoing some here, but...

- Avery Brooks in American History X
- Patrick Stewart in the X Men trilogy, I even liked Last Stand and loved his final scene
- Nicole deBoer in Cube with Stargates David Hewlett.
- Kate Mulgre in Throw Momma from the Train
- Rene Auberjonois in Los Locos, loved him in that movie, especially when he remembers his past

William Shatner's few minutes in Dodgeball gets an honorary mention as it's one of the amusing cameos.

Jennifer Lien (Kes) & Avery Brooks in “American History X".

Terry Farrell in “Back to School"

DeForest Kelley in “Fear in the Night"

Q & Dr. Crusher in “Taking Care of Business"

Spock in the 1978 “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”.

Garak in "Dirty Harry".

Kirk as high school teacher Mr. Gifford in that early 60's movie.

Can't think ot any more right now.

Sorry if some of those ^, are repeats of what other aficionados have said or if some of the parts these Trektors & Trektresses played in these films weren't major or near-major.

Nothing really new, but :

Brooks in American History X
Robinson in Dirty Harry
Stewart in Conspiracy Theory, X-Men 2, and Dune

Safehouse was really quite good, as was X-Men, and I know Dune is really not all that good, but it's a guilty pleasure.

Great list Aquehonga..i thought of another. Jeffery Combs in the REANIMATOR..at least I think thats him...

Rob

Wow, can't believe I didn't think of Re-Animator...probably because I was only thinking of regular cast members. That movie made me a fan of Combs for life - his charisma in it from start to finish is incredible. I just saw "Innerspace" (1987) and Robert Picardo (with hair!) had a great (but ridiculously cheesy) role as a weirdo cowboy with a wacky very fake-sounding accent. Why do so many Star Trek actors only appear in movies for very goofy and brief roles? It's like nobody can take them seriously, even though they've all done excellent serious acting.

Shimerman was awesome as Snyder in BTVS, Too Much Fun, despite not being a movie.

I don't know why Trek actors never get substantial roles in non-Trek movies. Is it because they're typecast, and if you stick em in a major motion picture, people will just say 'Oh look, thats Scotty or Sulu' or whoever?

That just made me remember the Johnny Cab  Not the best role to get in Total Recall.. and Marc Alaimo's in there too...
