Gene Roddenberry would want you to go. The creator of Star Trek expressed hope that one day someone would recreate a bigger and better version of the universe he invented. Enter director J. J. Abrams.

Majel Barrett Roddenberry, the wife of Star Trek's creator, Gene, is the only actor to have appeared in every iteration of the franchise on TV and in the movies, including this one, as the voice of the ship's computer. She recorded her lines for the movie only weeks before her death in December of last year.

Enter Bad Taste.

Reading the script probably killed her.

No other actor or actress were allowed to read the script in its entirety.

Eugene "Rod" Roddenberry, son of Majel, also stated on video how excited and commited she was to do the recordings despite her failing health.

This isn't breaking news. He had been saying that for years in interviews dating back a few decades. I don't know GR, but from what I have come to understand of the man.. I think he would be pleased that someone is carrying that torch a bit further.

I actually don't think this was in poor taste. In fact, MBR has always been supportive of the creative teams behind the Trek that followed long after GR's death. Her concerns were always about Paramount trying to milk the franshise too much. I am not aware of any instance of her speaking ill of Berman, or any of the creative team.

Her presence in the new film and in all the series is testament to her support of the franchise and commitment to the fans through all the incarnations.

She was a class act.
