Best trek battle?

I think the best over-in-5-seconds battle is from "All Good Things," when the future Enterprise-D shows up with the hyper-death cannon and takes care of the Klingons.

I liked the slow and purposeful cat 'n mouse game/battle in Balance of Terror.

Yeah, I like kickin' it old skool............ :p

My votes for best are:
  • The Battle to retake DS9 in Sacrifice of Angels
  • The finale battle in Nemesis
  • The battle in the Mutara Nebula in The Wrath Of Khan
  • The battle to protect the Enterprise C in Yesterday's Enterprise
  • The Xindi battle when the Xindi Aquatic ship is destroyed
  • The Battle for DS9 in The Way of the Warrior
  • The Battle where the Odyssey was destroyed in The Jem'Hadar
  • The battles during Year of Hell
I think they are pretty much equal with SoA winning by a nose.

Lots... in nor particular order:

The M5 Debacle
Balance of Terror
Enterprise vs. Reliant
Enterprise vs. Klingon BOP (Both STIII and STVI)
Wolf 359
Sector 001
Sacrifice of Angels
Way of the Warrior
In a Mirror, Darkly

Just to name a few.

In no particular order:

  • The Reliant vs. the Enterprise at the end of TWOK. This showed a truly strategic firefight between starships, rather than just them firing at each other, and ends with one of the most seminal scenes in all of Star Trek.
  • Kirk vs. the Romulan Commander in Balance of Terror. This was actually the episode that got me hooked on Star Trek, and shows two captains pitting themselves against each other, mano-a-mano, through their ships and crew.
  • The battle of Sector 001 in First Contact. Picard had been ordered to stay away because of his previous contact with the Borg, but he says sod all that and goes anyway, and it's precisely because of his previous assimilation that he saves the day--and then save it again, when his ship survives to stop the Borg in the past.
  • Spock vs. Kirk, fighting with giant pole-axes on Vulcan. Because of...That...Freakin'...Music!

I don't get all the love for the Nemesis battle. I never liked it. Sure, the visual effects are flashy, but otherwise it just seems meh. I think it's the fact that it feels so "off" from what we know of the Enterprise. Even the phaser and torpedo sound effects are wrong. And the yelling of fanwank things like "evasive pattern Kirk epsilon" just makes it worse.

I'd take TWOK's space battle, or any of the many battles in DS9, any day.

I'd say my favorite space battle of all time is from Way of the Warrior, when the Klingons attempt to take the station. A great space combat sequence, followed by some of the best and most intense hand-to-hand combat ever seen in Trek.

I completely agree on the Nemesis front. I have to add, also, that after being treated to the camera-shaking green-blue detonations of the quantum torpedoes in FC and DS9, the torps in Nemesis were hugely disappointing. They just kind of went "thwack" into the hull of the Scimitar like spitwads, then disappeared. No, no votes for Nemesis.

The cartwheeling Mirandas in (both of) their DS9 appearances always get me, but overall I'd have to say the original series movies got it right with TWOK and TUC. FC's Sector 001 battle gets a cheer from me, as well.
