Best TOS first mission book

I thought the first of the "Invasion" books was outstanding. Set in the FYM, that one is pretty near the top for me. There are so many set during that time period....

I remember enjoying "Ishmael" a great deal years ago. Of course, I grew up in Seattle . . .

How Much For Just The Planet? and Doctor's Orders, tho I do love all the Rihannsu novels I've read. And I have a special place in my heart for Strangers From The Sky.

I did read that, and loved it. My favorite Carey novel and my favorite Invasion novel, and (apparently) my favorite 5YM novel so far, though that might just be a lack of exposure.

^I recently read the Invasion! series, and I'd have to agree with you. Definitely the best Invasion! book. Not sure I've read enough Carey books to judge that, though.

Another one I really enjoyed was the Section 31 TOS entry, Cloak. My favorite of the Section 31 novels I've read, though I've yet to read Abyss.

Man, I've never read any of the books mentioned in this thread.

Well, except The Entropy Effect (which I thought was lame and anti-climactic) and Constellations (which I thought was mediocre at best) and Troublesome Minds (which I also didn't like nearly as much as everyone else around here).

Maybe the 5YM is not for me

Perhaps, Entropy Effect and Troublesome Minds are two of the best, IMO.

Unputdownable page-turners with stimulating, memorable 5YM storylines, even after all these years:

"The Galactic Whirlpool", "The Entropy Effect", "Uhura's Song", "Prime Directive".

I actually liked Enterprise: The First Adventure followed by Vulcan!
Enterprise: The First Adventure I thought was not all that good. The plot was silly and some of the characterization was a bit off. I recommend not reading it unless you are a completist.
