Best series

I like all Star Trek series (even Enterprise) and I can't narrow down a favorite more than giving the tie to TNG and DS9, with Voyager at a close 2nd, followed by TOS and then Enterprise.

Voyager would almost tie for first, but some of the really bad episodes (especially the Seven of Nine romance ones) hold it back. All the series have bad episodes, but I think that Voyager's bad episodes (I don't think there were that many, atleast to me, but there were several) were the worst of the series.

I have to go with DS9 as far as being the best series. It had an amazing story arc, characters that were developed better than any in all of Star Trek and a fantastic premise that put the characters at the heart of a major conflict.

Hi guys, im new to the forum, so sorry if this is done to death.[...]

Voyager couldn't write an interesting character. The acting on the show (sans Jennifer Lien and Robert Picardo) was horrible. It relied heavily on previously established characters (Barclay, Q, Troi, the Borg). The set design was horrible. I pick on the series because it was mind-numbing to watch. It felt like a chore.

The Original Series emphasized the entire crew. It was "my ship," not "my friends." It had characters that tried to think out a problem on-screen. They didn't create too many new races that weren't trips back in time and the series is dated (especially how it treats the women with the camera, music, and costume), but it is interesting. The lighting is superb. The first season of TOS lives up to any in Star Trek history.

My favorite series is Deep Space Nine, but it's really like choosing your favorite kid. The first 3 live-action series hold a special place in my heart. I can pop on any episode and like them. The UPN influenced series in Voyager and Enterprise were boring to me. It was pop-culture trek. It tackled no interesting subjects. It relied on gimmicks.

Having new posters ask questions like this is refreshing to me. It indicates that there are new people who have found the franchise and this site and are wanting to talk about it now--not read some old thread from years back. If you are not interested in joining the discussion, just bypass the thread. I'm thrilled to see newbies joining us! :)

So, back to the question. Voyager is my favorite series, closely followed by TOS and then TNG. I lost interest in DS9 and never got interested in ENT.

Hi guys, im new to the forum, so sorry if this is done to death. I was just wondering how any of you can possibly consider the original star trek as the best. Ok it may have been the first but thats about all it has going for it. Captain Janeway was the best captain ever, on the best ship ever. How can anyone think otherwise?
Actually, most fans here consider Next Generation to be the best.

Nah. It's been well established over time that DS9 wins all the best-of competitions. The only change I've seen is that TOS used to be left in the dust, and more lately it's been making a strong second-place showing. Maybe that's the influence of the Abrams movie series - revitalizing interest among the oldies who never liked much beyond the original (while riling up a minority of fundamentalist die-hards).

Wow! A lot of cadets/ensigns in this thread. I'm amazed.

Be nice, we need new blood. I'm sick of all the old faces! :p

The question was, how anyone could possibly have the original series as their favorite. Original Star Trek, especially season one, was about science-fiction ideas and was an intelligent, broundbreaking science fiction drama, as opposed to lighter action-adventure with some outer "sci-fi" trappings. It posed challenging questions and had a sense of scale to it that the other shows didn't match. The original poster mentioned Voyager as obviously better. All the qualities I just tried to describe of original Trek's are there to some extent in Voyager, but watered-down, and less well executed. Very often there was no interesting SF idea at all in a Voyager episode, or it petered out and was resolved poorly by the end.
These are the standards I judge by, not how much in the way of flashy special effects you get. You got fewer in original Trek, but they were used effectively, and supported the concepts and drama. Original Trek, especially year one, was just a more adult show.
DS9 is second. Next Gen and Voyager had too many dull, bland slumps, though when they were great, they were great.

I'm watching VOY again, and this time I'm watching it with all the posts I've read here in mind, about it being inconsistent, and whatever other complaints you all have. I still think it's highly entertaining....I haven't quite hit inconsistencies yet, because I'm still in S1...but I'll keep an eye out for them.

Also, I said my fave captain is Jean Luc, but my favorite show is DS9. :D

This is a hard question since I like actually all of the shows. Voyager was my first Star Trek experience ever, so I guess it's the best in my list. It introduced me to the series and I know the show best out of the all. And I always get "mad" when I see a Intrepid class starship getting destroyed in games... :D

I guess each series had it's ups and downs. I watched some of TNG when as it came out when I was a kid. It's only been recently that I'd watched the entire series. I agree with a previous post that when it was great....but there was alot of dull episodes in my opinion. The movies were far better. Voyager was the first that really got me to be a trekkie. I watched it as they came out and it was the first I bought on dvd. Enterprise was a bit dull and was cancelled the minute it started getting good. I only recently rented DS9 from netflix and then bought them cause I thought they were the best.

Every series has its appeal to a certain person. So saying that any one is better than the other is just a point of view. There all good and i'll watch any one of them over survivior any day.

Hi my name is Silvester and i am new here in this forum i just want to take part in discussions and looking forward to share ideas and views with others thanks .

Well, welcome aboard to both you Silverstruck and LLBoingo! I am surprised that my colleagues who posted before me did not give you both the official BBS greeting.

In answer to the original question, no matter how much I love TOS, the best of all the series is by far TNG. Better stories, better acting, superior scripts and design.
