So we have lots of Best of lists, but I don't recall seeing this one in quite some time.

What's your least favorite Male character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

What's your least favorite Female character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

What's your least favorite Episode from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

What's your least favorite Season from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

What's your least favorite Show that you've seen more than 1 season of? (And why did you keep watching it??)

What's your least favorite decision/choice made on a Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

I'll leave the above questions blank to serve as a template for others. My answers:

What's your least favorite Male character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?
Byron from Season 5 of Bab5. Was really glad he went up in flames
Was never a big fan of Jake Sisko or Nog. Actually, Sisko was not real high up on my list of captain's either. Something about the stilted way he delivers his lines can rub me the wrong way at times. Other times, he can be brilliant.

What's your least favorite Female character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?
Tough call.
Hated Ezri Dax.....horrible character, horrible replacement for Jadzia.
Hated Janeway. Worst captain ever.
7 of 9 was an absolute babe, but horrible character.

What's your least favorite Episode from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?
Taking the Stone from Farscape springs to mind.
Most of the Luwaxanna Troi episodes from TNG are horrid
The baseball episode from Season 7 of DS9 was bad.

What's your least favorite Season from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?
Season 1 of TNG is pretty rough to rewatch.
Season 1 of Buffy was pretty rough

What's your least favorite Show that you've seen more than 1 season of? (And why did you keep watching it??)
Voyager. I kept watching it because I loved TNG and really loved DS9 and I kept thinking that surely, this gets better. Then came 7 of 9 and it really started to go down hill.

What's your least favorite decision/choice made on a Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?
Having Connor sleep with "Cordelia" in Season 4 of Angel
Breaking up Anya/Xander in Season 6 of Buffy like they did
Making Magic = Drugs for 1 season of Buffy
Bringing on Ezri to replace Jadzia on DS9

Good lord, some of these questions will be very difficult.

What's your least favorite Male character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

Neelix

What's your least favorite Female character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

Granny from Farscape

What's your least favorite Episode from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

These are the Voyages, Enterprise

What's your least favorite Season from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

Heroes, S4

What's your least favorite Show that you've seen more than 1 season of? (And why did you keep watching it??)

Heroes - because I liked the characters

What's your least favorite decision/choice made on a Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

Sylar's ping-ponging personality, Heroes

Nice thread idea, label. It's always therapeutic to get ones 'hate-on' going once in awhile. :D It's hard to pick just one answer for each question, but I'll try to keep the lists short:

What's your least favorite Male character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

- I never really liked Wesley Crusher. I don't hate him as much as some others, but most of the time I found him quite boring and tedious.

- Rom. He wasn't such a horrible character, I just couldn't stand his grating Looney Tunes moron voice and his unsightly crooked tooth.

- I hate pretty much the whole male cast of "Voyager" except Tuvok, although I haven't seen many episodes of the series.

What's your least favorite Female character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

- Glory on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". So annoying. Attractive actress, but her character's dialog and personality were insufferable and ruined season 5 for me.

- I hate pretty much the whole female cast of "Voyager" except Janeway, although I've never seen Kes.

What's your least favorite Episode from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

"Plato's Stepchildren". I felt like I was being punished watching this. If I had been born when this was first broadcast and watched it then, I think I may have quit Star Trek for good. What a shame that would have been.

What's your least favorite Season from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

This is a tough call. I have to go with season 5 of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" even though it has a few episodes I really love (including my second favourite of the series), because while I enjoy some individual plots, moments, and episodes in it, I hate what it represents to me - the turning point where the series started to suck. The main villain and the big story lines ruined a series that had pretty damn consistent up to this point.

Even season 1, which was often very corny and hard to watch (and to this day I can't watch more than two episodes of it) didn't piss me off as much as this one, because it didn't take the characters in directions that infuriated me or tell stories that killed my affection built by previous seasons.

What's your least favorite Show that you've seen more than 1 season of? (And why did you keep watching it??)

I can't think of a show I've seen more than one season of that I really don't like except "The Simpsons", but that's not sci-fi or fantasy (at least not most of the time). I watched it for more than one season because it was pretty good for three seasons and amazing for five seasons, before it began to aggressively suck for 15 (!) seasons. That must be some kind of record. A very sad one. :(

What's your least favorite decision/choice made on a Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

- Buffy and Spike having any kind of relationship besides hero and enemy. Despite all those who would argue to the contrary, I will take this assertion to the grave: This was a crime! A travesty! A blight that caused irreparable damage to a series that deserved much, much better than to be sabotaged from the inside by it. A textbook 'jump the shark' plot if I ever saw one.

- Connor has sex with Cordelia. Just as stupid as the Buffy and Spike thing, but even more icky. :nyah: Everything else that came out of that story line was terrible too, culminating with Jasmine. It just got worse and worse until it was torture to watch.

- Jadzia and Dukat, um...I can't say it. :( I still haven't been able to bring myself to watch it. I know the actress decided to leave and it pissed the show's creators off, but they could have found other ways to handle this. They didn't have Rosalind Chao every week, so she was off working somewhere. Jadzia could have had a leave of absence and come back at the end. I did like Ezri, though.

What's your least favorite Male character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

Neelix

Good call. I really didn't like him either.

What's your least favorite Female character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

Granny from Farscape

I can't believe I forgot her! She is definitely my least favorite character from any show, at least in Season 4. I didn't mind her as a plot device in the Season 3 finale, but I couldn't stand what they did with her in Season 4.

What's your least favorite Season from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

Heroes, S4

This would have probably been me as well if I hadn't given up on the show after Season 3.

"Plato's Stepchildren".

Good one. To be fair, there were several of those type of Spock's Brain episodes from TOS that were equally as cheesy and painful to sit through. I guess I figured picking on those episodes that are 40+ years old was too easy. ;)

Jadzia and Dukat, um...I can't say it.

Agreed. It was a huge mistake to handle it the way they did. I really can't believe she decided to leave with just one more season to go......really disappointing.

What's your least favorite Male character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?
Tyler - nuV

What's your least favorite Female character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?
Moogie - DS9

What's your least favorite Episode from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?
"Unfinished Business" - nuBSG - What a ridiculously overblown, self-indulgent pile of dung.

What's your least favorite Season from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?
Lost - Season 6 - I took some liberties and made my choice relative to the rest of the show. As much as I enjoyed this show and loved the finale, Season 6 seems like such a waste to me. Sayid's character was eviscerated, the characters just moved around the island, storylines seemed aimless (The Temple), and the flash-sideways sucked way too much air out of the show.

What's your least favorite Show that you've seen more than 1 season of? (And why did you keep watching it??)
Carnivale -- I loved the pilot episode. Thought the first season spiraled downward and Season 2 was horrid, but kept watching because so many people said Season 2 was so much better than 1. They were wrong. lol

What's your least favorite decision/choice made on a Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?
The time-jump at the end of nuBSG Season 2. For a series that made such a big stink about character, to gloss over the "development" for such a huge portion of the lives of the characters was just preposterous. It was a bold decision, but the series (for me) never recovered afterward.

What's your least favorite Male character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

Sawyer from Lost. The character was an asshole who was shoved down our throats by a producers determined to make him the lead. After he removed a bullet from himself using his fingers I had absolutely no toleration for the character.

What's your least favorite Female character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

Olivia Dunham. She's as weepy as Kate from Lost, although just a would be murderer instead of a successful murderer, but Fringe producers insist on distorting the series to keep her as the object of adoration.

What's your least favorite Episode from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

Flesh and Bone from Battlestar Galactica. Telling a story about the suffering and redemption of a torturer is vile.

What's your least favorite Season from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

Really a least favorite, instead of disliked, sixth season SG-1. Corin Nemec was fine, but Jonas Quinn wasn't distinctly different in his views from the rest of the team. The similarity sapped the vitality of the show in most episodes.

What's your least favorite Show that you've seen more than 1 season of? (And why did you keep watching it??)

Battlestar Galactica. Kept watching various episodes as a case study in post-9/11 prowar propaganda. The level of popularity of the show and the shamelessness of excuses for the horrible writing provided an estimate of the bigotry in the audience.

What's your least favorite decision/choice made on a Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

Peacekeeper Wars. The gang all stride forth from Aeryn's birthing pool, baby in arm, and kick ass by sheer gloriousness of their coolth. Then the show tries to have Crichton give a peace manifesto ending. The shamelessness of playing it both ways thematically ended the series on a very sour note.

What's your least favorite Male character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?
Neelix from Voyager I don't think I need to explain that one.

What's your least favorite Female character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?
Captain Janeway

What's your least favorite Episode from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?
These are the Voyages from Enterprise it was an awful last episode.

What's your least favorite Season from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?
Season 2 of Space 1999 I hated all the pointless changes when Freiberger took over (he was also responsible for the third season of TOS).

What's your least favorite Show that you've seen more than 1 season of? (And why did you keep watching it??)
Andromeda I think I watched from habit even after Robert Hewitt Wolfe was fired.

What's your least favorite decision/choice made on a Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?
The destruction of the Liberator at the end of the third season of Blake's 7.

What's your least favorite Male character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?
Chakotay, Kim and Neelix from VOY.
Chekov from TOS.

What's your least favorite Female character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?
Kate from Lost.
Cally from Battlestar Galactica.

What's your least favorite Episode from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?
"Up the Long Ladder", "Code of Honor", "Angel One", "The Last Outpost", "The Neutral Zone" - TNG
"These are the Voyages", "Bound" - Enterprise
"Mudd's Women" - TOS
"Threshold" - VOY
"Sine Qua Non" and "Deadlock" - Battlestar Galactica

What's your least favorite Season from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?
Season 1 of TNG.
Season 7 of The X-Files.
Season 7 of VOY.

What's your least favorite Show that you've seen more than 1 season of? (And why did you keep watching it??)
Star Trek: Voyager - because I'm a Trek fan and I wanted to see all Trek shows
Heroes - I liked some of the characters and wanted to see if it would get better.

What's your least favorite decision/choice made on a Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?
Athena killing Natalie in season 4 of BSG, and getting not more than a slap on the wrist for it - and being continued to be treated as a heroic character, despite becoming hateful to much of the fandom.
Caprica Six's pregnancy by Tigh, and the horrible handling of Caprica Six's character in seasons 3.5 and 4 of BSG in general.
The lame 'explanation' of the mysteries (Opera House visions, head characters) in the series finale of BSG.
The lack of any explanation of the Starbuck mystery.
The destruction of Boomer's character in seasons 3 and 4 of BSG.
The ridiculous retcon of Nicky's parentage in season 4 of BSG.
The way Leoben's character was neutered and pushed into the background in season 4.5 of BSG.
Basically, most of the resolutions in seasons 3.5 and 4 of BSG.

A non-BSG choice: the entire Pah-wraiths arc on DS9, as well as the Sisko's Prophet Mom thing.

What's your least favorite Show that you've seen more than 1 season of? (And why did you keep watching it??)

Battlestar Galactica. Kept watching various episodes as a case study in post-9/11 prowar propaganda.

Then we will fight to the grave. :klingon: ;)

What's your least favorite Female character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?
Moogie - DS9

Good call. This reminds me of Zek, so now I want to change my male character selection to him. By far the most irritating recurring character in DS9. I love Wallace Shawn, but the voice and mannerisms he used for this role (which I don't blame him entirely for, as I'm sure part of it came from the way he was directed) were unbearable.

D.E., you are hilarious. :D Also, I didn't know (forgot?) you had so many problems with BSG. None of the things you mentioned bothered me much, although I do agree that the thing with Nicky's parents and Caprica's pregnancy were pretty stupid.

And you're damn right about the Pah Wraiths and Sisko's mom stuff. I think that singlehandedly kept DS9's finale from being a classic and is one of the biggest reasons I'll always consider TNG a superior show overall, despite all the cool, innovative, daring stuff DS9 did that make people think it's superior to the other Star Trek shows.

Is the idea here to collect nominations for an eventual poll? I have two other nominees for least favorite decision/choice:

1. Red-eye Dukat, DS9

2. Peter doesn't react at all to Nathan's actual death, but cries like a baby over the death of faux Nathan who is actually Sylar, Heroes.

You have a vote. Red-eye Dukat was included by default in my choice of "the entire Pah-wraiths storyline", but it's without any doubt the worst part of that awful storyline.

The original idea of this thread was really just to

1. Talk about some of the stuff that we think didn't work in shows to see if there was a general consensus
2. Perhaps get a new perspective on a show or episode I had previously enjoyed that someone else had lots of problems with.

For instance, I know this is a Trek board and without the Original Series we wouldn't have any of the Trek we have now or the wonderful (most of the time) movies. That being said, I find about 30-40% of the original Series to be pretty much cringe worthy now. Yes, I love Spock/Kirk/McCoy, I love a lot of their movies and there are some episodes from the original series I can stomach pretty well, but there are quite a few people in the "Top 10 Sci-Fi shows" where TOS is not only in the top 10, but in some cases, number 1.

Part of that could be my age (40) and not having grown up with the show.....part of it could just be my taste..in any case, that type of discussion is really what I was hoping we'd get out of this thread.

As for the poll idea, yeah......I could see where collecting nominations and putting a poll together would also be an interesting endeavor. If we get enough diverse participation, I'll put one together.

Oh, and as for Red-Eye Dukat, definitely. He was one of my favorite characters up till that happened. Huge mistake. Surprised I missed that in my list.

What's your least favorite Male character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

Alpha, from Dollhouse. I can only see Alan Tudyk as Wash.

What's your least favorite Female character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

T'Pol from Enterprise. Even with the explanation (ahem, retcon) that Vulcans had deviated from Surak's teachings, the damage was already done. T'Pol is the least Vulcan of all the Vulcans I have seen.

What's your least favorite Episode from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

Star Trek: Voyager's "Threshold". Something with the mass of a shuttle traveling infinitely fast, turning people into salamanders. Am I watching Star Trek or Brannon Braga's drunk fantasy?

What's your least favorite Season from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

Seaquest DSV, Season 2. Season 1 was strong, lots of good stories and cool action. Suddenly season 2 came along and its like a totally different show, on a totally different version of Earth.

What's your least favorite Show that you've seen more than 1 season of? (And why did you keep watching it??)

Farscape. Everyone tells me its a great show, so this year I finally went ahead and rented the DVDs. And I tried very hard, hoping the stories will get better. I finally stopped midway through season 3, when Crichton was twinned. Farscape just seemed too campy and childish for my tastes.

Voyager, Enterprise. Because I am a fan of Star Trek.

What's your least favorite decision/choice made on a Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

Axing Dollhouse, forcing the producers to squish seasons worth of material into a handful of episodes.

Farscape just seemed too campy and childish for my tastes.

I've heard Farscape criticized for many things in the past....campy being among them, but I've never heard a show that has as much sex and violence and dark, often twisted humour as Farscape has as being "too childish" a show??

What's your least favorite Male character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

- Geordi La Forge: he always struck me as a whiner and too self-important.

What's your least favorite Female character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

- T'Pol: I confess, part of this is due to my overall disdain for "Enterprise", but her character seemed so lacking in depth. From my perspective, she was nothing more than provocative window dressing. Or would that be undressing?

What's your least favorite Episode from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

- So many candidates, so little time. The first one that pops into mind is "Fear Her" from the nu Who series. There just does not seem to be anything even remotely interesting in the ep.

What's your least favorite Season from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

- Wow... that's a tough one, because almost all seemed to have at least some redeeming material in them, even S5 of "Babylon 5". Maybe... S2 or S3 of "Seaquest: DSV". To go to a 'GQ' type of cast, completely jettisoning a good, solid and talented cast ... with a massive jump-cut between seasons.... :vulcan:

What's your least favorite Show that you've seen more than 1 season of? (And why did you keep watching it??)

- Voyager: I watched half of it and finally gave up. I kept watching it since it was trek, and I didn't want that to be over. But it was far too much "same old, same old" for me. Everything was a rehash of what had been done before. After TNG and DS9 it all felt as if the sets, the sound, the music, the visuals, etc just felt like "Been there, done that"

What's your least favorite decision/choice made on a Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

- Killing off "Crusade" and "Firefly". Both series had imho entertaining premises, were decided departures from what had come before, and brought new faces, characters and more importantly... new stories to a world that had grown weary of repeats

No one's (or at least very few people) are going to argue that both shows should have had a better opportunity to grow and succeed, but what I'm really shooting for with this question is more geared toward decisions made within the show. Like, some people didn't like that on Buffy, they made Willow exclusively a lesbian or that on DS9, they turned Gul Dukat into a religious mad-man.......that sort of thing..............

Some more:

What's your least favorite Female character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

Echo from Dollhouse
Lacey from Caprica
Maya from Heroes

Oh I agree with you. I was simply going for a different angle because this has been a long, strange day that's made my powers of recollection weaker than usual.

If pressed, I'd say jms' decision to go with Byron and the Teeps as the primary focus of early S5 of "Babylon 5" was pretty questionable. Maybe it could have been made to work somehow, but the way he executed it didn't allow for any sympathy toward the telepaths' plight and mainly bogged down the season until we got to the meat of it

BTW... it's really good to see you back and more active. :techman: I still use "When the chips are down, the buffalo is empty" every now and then, to great effect. ;)

What's your least favorite decision/choice made on a Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

The Atlantis gang changes Michael from Wraith to human without considering what they'll have to do if the "cure" doesn't take, SG-A.

Mohinder - a trained scientist who should know better - decides to experiment on himself and turns himself into a spider, Heroes.

Peter forgets (or doesn't care) that Caitlin is still trapped in an alternate timeline. Nobody ever mentions her again! Heroes.

What's your least favorite Female character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

Niki, Heroes.

What's your least favorite Male character from any Sci-Fi/Fantasy show?

Hiro, Heroes.

Outside of Crichton and Aeryn, the rest of the cast just had simplistic and uninteresting personalities. D'Argo is an angry brute with a soft cuddly heart, Dominar is a greedy pig, Bialar seems to fill Dukat's role in DS9 except he's much less interesting and I can't stand Jool's screeching and whining. Something goes wrong, everyone (including the entire audience) looks at Rigel. D'Argo just fights his way out of all situations. While funny, all these elements just made the show too predictable to keep my interest.

Overall, I guess you could say I did not like over half the cast and their constant bickering over the smallest of issues.
