best mindfuck episodes?

"Shades Of Gray"

What was Rick Berman thinking when he said "I know! Lets do a clipshow episode for the season finale. After all, next to the premiere episodes, season finales generally attract the highest ratings. Lets do it!" Thats a real mindfuck right there

Thanks a lot for all the suggestions, everyone! I've watched most of them now, and there were some real pearls there, though unfortunately I seem to have watched all of them already at some point since I usually figured out the final twists by the end of the first act.
My favorite was probably Parallels, I just loved seeing some and then imagining all the different versions of the Enterprise, crazy stuff!
Ship in a Bottle was also really cool, I loved Barclay at the end "computer, end program", HA!
Schisms is fantastic as well, the reconstruction in the holodeck was actually one of my scariest moments of television when I originally saw it as a kid.

Thanks a lot for all the great tips, people!

Done because of the writers strike that year.

yeah, that's the reason for the episode, but what's with the bad scheduling, as the other poster mentioned? You want a season finale to generate excitement for the next season.

Why didn't they use "Shades of Gray" in the 18th or 19th episode where it would be buried and forgotten rather than having it be the season finale? If they literally ran out of money at the end of the season, that's just bad planning.

Time Squared is a pretty messed up episode in places. Picard shooting his past self in the chest still floors me to this day, especially that brief beat of his face after he does it.

I agree on "Time Squared" - saw it again for the first time in years last week. I found the whole filmed footage of the 5-hours-from-the-future Picard's leaving the Enterprise in the shuttle very spooky.
