Best Ever NON-Genre Action Film

that's a war movie.

S.W.A.T. is indeed a great flick, but not as great as Hot Fuzz, the Bournes, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon or Air Force One...

i'm going to vote for...

Face/Off

anyone else mentioned it? no? damn, it's cool.

Ah! I thought of another of my favorites!!! RONIN with DeNiro. It has THE best car chases ever filmed, great dialogue, tons of twists and turns. And what a cast. DeNiro, Jean Reno, Sean Bean, Stellan Skaarsgard (is that his name?). A great story about the Post-Cold War world of intelligence.

The French Connection. Maybe not the No. 1 action movie, but it has the greatest car chase in the history of cinema. And the fact that the chase was filmed for real (no CGI crap) and in the middle of actual city traffic in Brooklyn (with no prior permission having been received from the city) is utterly astounding. That kind of thing will never, every happen again.

Here's some:
The Count of Monte Cristo (the 2002 version starring James Caviezel and Guy Pearce in particular)
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
The Mask of Zorro
The Legend of Zorro
Walt Disney's Treasure Island
Shanghai Noon (somebody mentioned Knights, but Noon's just as good, if not better)
