I'm pretty sure nobody's made this poll yet, so here goes:

Michael Wisher originated the role in "Genesis of the Daleks". Wisher-a frequent WHO guest star- had done Daleks in previous stories so he was a natural for the part, pretty much. One of the most chilling elements of Davros in "Genesis" is the "You will tell me" cliffhanger in which Davros's voice starts to really take on the characteristics of a Dalek.

David Gooderson played Davros in "Destiny of the Daleks". In "Destiny" Davros was mainly played for laughs this time around, and it was pretty obvious that the mask and chair didn't quite fit him.

Terry Molloy potrayed Davros in the 80's "R_ of the Daleks" trilogy. His mask was quite different than the Wisher/Gooderson version. Molloy's Davros is often seen as a bit over-the-top, although he's done some great work as the character in the audio dramas.

Julian Bleach of course played the latest incarnation of the character in the Stolen Earth/Journey's End. His performance and his appearence are mainly a combination of the Wisher and Molloy Davros's, IMO.

Any favorites?

I'm torn between Bleach and Wisher.

The visual awesomeness of Bleach's Davros scores many points, and he gives a fine portrayal. But Davros himself was never more chilling than in his debut. There was a certain coldness about Wisher's performance that Bleach missed out on, IMO.

There's no beating Michael Wisher. That being said, Julian Bleach did a wonderful job as the latest version of Davros.

I was torn between Wisher and Bleach as well, but I ultimately went with Wisher for his portrayal of the character, which had so many levels. Bleach was quite good too, and definitely has the best make-up.

And just for visual reference...

Chalk another one up for being torn between Wisher and Bleach.

Bleach's make up was far superior and his laser finger was awesome.

Wisher's portrayal was just chilling and ruthless. Loved his interactions with Tom Baker.

Wisher gets the points this round but just by a fraction.

It's hard to say. Davros was best in Genesis of the Daleks, but was that because of Wisher or the excellent script? If, say, Bleach had been in Genesis of the Daleks would he have done a better job than Wisher?

I'll go with Bleach. He was in a terrible episode with a terrible script, but he still did an amazing job. I hope he gets another chance to play Davros in a better episode.

Wisher. Though I almost went with Terry Molloy.

I really didn't think Bleach was all that great either to be completely honest. I'd take Terry Molloy over his version of Davros anyday..

IMO, it was Wisher. He put a lot into getting into the role in Genesis, which is, I think, why his Davros comes across as the definitive version.

That said, in reality, we only got to see Bleach for a relatively short period, compared to Wisher. Perhaps if he returns, my opinion will change, for I too, am one of those torn between them. Bleach really captured the "spirit" of Wisher's Davros while making the character his own, which is an exceptionally difficult thing for an actor to do.

Wisher, but Bleach was really good. I think the difference is that Wisher's younger Davros was a touch colder and more clinical, all the other Davros' have been more screaming psycho types!
