I'm only a semi-regular cinema goer, but I've been to see a few films this year. I might still squeeze in Fantastic Beasts, but those I have seen -

Best in order of preference :

Rogue One
Doctor Strange
Deadpool
Civil War
Age of Apocalypse
Batman vs Superman
Suicide Squad

And worst :

Beyond

My favourites for the year:

Star Trek Beyond
Deadpool
Arrival
Fantastic Beasts
Civil War
Dr Strange

Most disappointing:
Suicide Squad
BvS
...DC films just keep swinging and missing for me.

Haven't seen Rogue One yet so it can't make either list ;)

My favorite movie this year was Arrival. Went to see it twice and loved it more the second time than the first.

Others I really enjoyed:

Star Trek Beyond
The Edge of Seventeen
Hell or High Water
Zootopia
Doctor Strange

Most disappointing:

Jason Bourne
Batman vs Superman

Perhaps I'll get to see Arrival and Fantastic Beasts yet this year... Haven't been to the movies often, this year, come to think of it, but at least I made it to those films I had on my radar at beginning of 2016. *g*

In order of preference, though I liked all of them:

Rogue One
Dr Strange
X-Men: Apocalypse
Star Trek: Beyond

As in-flight programme I saw Independence Day 2... and I'm definitely glad I didn't spend any money on that one (the only one that I planned on, but didn't see in the cinema).

My favorite movie of this year was Arrival.

Deadpool and Rogue One get honorable mention.

Best
Deadpool
Zootopia
Midnight Special
Captain America: Civil War
Star Trek: Beyond
Nerve
Sully
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back
Doctor Strange
Arrival

Worst
The Hateful Eight
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
X-Men: Apocalypse
The Legend of Tarzan
Independence Day: Resurgence

Everything else was just kinda somewhere in between...

Beyond
Deadpool
Zootopia
Mr. Holmes
Doctor Strange
Rogue One
Civil War
Apocalypse

No real disapointments this year!
2016 was an asshole but movievise... pretty good.

Did you find HATEFUL EIGHT too indulgent or plodding? Some of Tarantino's films go down better on a second viewing, in retroactive context.

I thought it was boring, repetitive, and poorly scripted/paced. And that voiceover that comes out of nowhere right in the middle that just narrates what's being shown onscreen, adding absolutely nothing to the movie was a bad idea. I was so disappointed by it, I haven't bothered to watch it a second time. I don't want Quentin Tarantino to get even more of my money for that film - he already got three matinee tickets out of me, since I took my nephews with me that day.
