Best 2 Part Episodes

After watching the 2 part episode "Storm Front" of the Enterprise series I got to thinking, which 2 part episodes of TNG, DS9 & Voyager do you the members of the Trek BB's consider your favorite?

James

TOS: The Menagerie (yeah, not a lot of choices)
TNG: Best of Both Worlds and All Good Things
DS9: They didn't really do 2-parters that were distinctively 2 parters. I loved pretty much love the last 3 seasons (with very few exceptions).
VOY: Scorpion I & II
ENT: Demons & Terra Prime and IAMD I & II

"Improbable Cause"/"The Die is Cast" is the best Trek two part episode ever. Deep Space Nine always did well with multi-part episodes. The only TNG two parter I ever liked was Best of Both Worlds, while Voyager pretty much only has "Scorpion".

Voyager had Year of Hell 1 & 2, Future's End 1 & 2, Hell's Game 1 & 2, Workforce 1 & 2, Basics 1 & 2, Equinox 1 & 2, Unimatrix 1 & 2

TOS had 1 two part episode as indicated in a post above, which of the series to come after TOS had the most 2 part episodes?

And this thread is ovah. Goji wins, for being right.

Except that those are not a 2 part episode.

Voyager had the most 2 part episodes while TOS had only one. TNG had the best IMHO with “The Best of Both Worlds”. DS9 had a lot during the first 4 years and then moved to longer arcs and continuing woven story lines until closing out season 7 with another two part episode. Enterprise like DS9 has less than one per year and opted for longer arcs and continuing story lines over the last two years. TNG, DS9 and VOY all started and ended with 2 part episodes.

TOS – 1
TNG – 11
DS9 – 6
VOY – 12
ENT - 3

Two part episodes:
TOS - The Menagerie
TNG – Encounter at Farpoint
TNG – The Best of Both Worlds
TNG – Redemption
TNG – Unification
TNG – Time’s Arrow
TNG – Chain of Command
TNG – Birthright
TNG – Descent
TNG – Gambit
TNG – All Good Things
DS9 – Emissary
DS9 – The Maquis
DS9 – The Search
DS9 – Past Tense
DS9 – The Way of the Warrior
DS9 – What You Leave Behind
VOY – Caretaker
VOY – Basics
VOY – Future’s End
VOY – Scorpion
VOY – Year of Hell
VOY – The Killing Game
VOY – Dark Frontier
VOY – Equinox
VOY – Unimatrix Zero
VOY – Flesh and Blood
VOY – Workforce
VOY – Endgame
ENT – Shockwave
ENT – Storm Front
ENT – In a Mirror, Darkly

I would say that Improbable Cause/The Die Is Cast qualifies as a two-part episode. Improbable Cause ended with "to be continued...".

My favorites would be Homefront/Paradise Lost, The Best of Both Worlds, and The Maquis. Gambit was fun, too, but it wasn't on the same level as the others.

I suppose the 6 or 7 episode thread from the start of the Dominion war doesn't count for this thread?

"Chain of Command" and "Best of Both Worlds" are a hard toss-up for TNG for me.

And Voyager...just started watching, so no comment on 2-parters.

And for TOS, I suppose it is "The Menagerie"

Why? Because they didn't have the same title with the words Part I and Part II added to it?

I'll agree that one episode leads into the other very nicely but they have two very distinct story lines. Improbable Cause is about the investigation of the assassination attempt on Garak. The Die is Cast focuses on the failed attempt of the Romulan and Cardassians to destroy the Founders. If tying the story lines makes it a two part episode then do you add the episodes about the Founders retaliating? By that logic most of DS9 could be considered a huge multipart episode. Improbable Cause does have a bit of a cliff hanger to lead into The Die is Cast but I don't know if it was enough to warrant the "To Be Continued" at the end. Maybe it does. You can watch each part separately and get a good story.

The Best of Both Worlds, Part I is about the imminence of the Borg, Riker's insecurity whether to leave the ship or not and a Borg cube making its way to earth. The Best of Both Worlds, Part II is about the rescue of Captain Picard, the crew's efforts to change him back to his old self and the eventual defeat of the Borg cube.

You see, by your definition most two-parters aren't actually two-parters. Improbable Cause/The Die is Cast is a two-parter. For me there's no way around it.

It has been a while since I saw The Best of Both Worlds. I was thinking the two episodes were about the Borg heading to earth and the Enterprise trying to stop them. I do remember the main part is "Picard is taken, they get him back." I'll have to pull out the DVD's and watch it again before I can give an educated reply. Maybe it is two separate stories loosely tied together.

I just finished watching Improbable Cause and The Die is Cast as I thought I must have missed something. While the writing is great and there is a tie, the two episodes do stand very well on their own and the main story line is different. They just moved two minutes of The Die is Cast to the end of Improbable Cause, then repeated it again when the episode really started. The one underlying theme is Odo and Garak find out how much alike they are, but that is not the stuff to tie two episodes into one, is it?
