Bernice Summerfield.

Guy Gardener

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
I just finished the first season.

Magnificent.

When the Nazi's were torturing the professor for information and brainwashing Benny with German propaganda, I felt he need to crawl into myself like a caterpillar building a cocoon.

The earlier episodes are adaptations of her books.

10 more seasons.

Hi HO! Lets go!

The audio of Just War is fantastic. Beyond the Sun is also quite good-- I think many of the best Benny stories have this bleak, pessimistic tone, which makes her triumph all the more satisfactory.

The second season is okay; it suffers from Big Finish hiring folks who are worse at sound design than me at age 14 whilst teaching myself. Also, I'm not a big fan of the stories that try too hard to be funny. I haven't gone beyond season 3 yet, but I am doing so, very slowly.

I finished season three yesterday.

There's this freaky little addon where they do a play on going back in time and killing Hitler's mother but with Space alien equivalents, in glaring and horrific detail.

Although i am noting that there are parts in the story that rely on information that we just do not have because the books were either abridged into audio or not every book was adapted
.
What do you think of the opening credits that Lisa sung herself?

One episode i listened to had half the character tracks missing, it was mostly just Lisa talking to herself, for the first ten minutes I thought it might be a framing technique.

Maddness.

Only the first season is adapted from novels. The rest are wholly original stories-- though often novels take place between then, probably most significantly just before Death and the Daleks.

Lisa did not sing those credits-- that was Emily Baker. And they're complete shit.

Really? There's a moment where "Benny" was listening to the credits instory and says "What was i thinking?!"

I'm listening to death and Daleks right now. :)

I've been meaning to get into the whole Benny thing for years - I've heard bits and pieces of the audios and I remember liking her as a companion of the Seventh Doctor in some of the original Virgin novels. And of course what she does to the Eighth Doctor at the end of "The Dying Days" would have made the general fanbase spontaneously combust had it happened on screen...

Since Paul Cornell has been involved with the TV series I keep hoping one of these days to see Benny appear on screen as a one-off guest appearance, perhaps as a pilot for a Benny Summerfield TV series. Unfortunately they'd probably end up recasting the part (for some reason Jamie Murray of Hustle and Dexter fame just popped into mind).

There was an interview on the hind end of one of the cds wherein Paul says "Benny Summerfield is me with tits."

SUCH FUN!

I recall that at one time, maybe not quite a decade ago, Jason Haigh-Ellery mentioned that Big Finish wanted to do a direct-to-video Benny movie with Lisa Bowerman. I honestly wouldn't have minded that at the time. These days, I imagine a live-action Benny as (realistic choice) Tasmin Grieg or (unrealistic choice) Rachel Weisz.

And while I like Benny, I'd much rather see Izzy in Doctor Who or Torchwood. Preferably the latter. And, given the age she would be in the present, I'd cast Kelly MacDonald.

Personally, I'd rather see TV appearances by Frobisher or Iris Wildthyme, but to each his own.

I actually haven't listened to any Bernice Summerfield audios. You can't find them in stores and I'm always reluctant to buy things online. (Although, I did hit the motherlode of Doctor Who audios a few weeks ago when I went to Half Price Books. Divergent Universe, here I come!)
