The CW is developing a remake of the 1980's TV series Beauty and the Beast.

The original TV series; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beauty_and_the_Beast_(TV_series)

Um...wow...I am not sure what to make of this...I am sure they can make it fit...and Mark Pedowitz said he was in favor of remakes. http://www.deadline.com/2011/08/tca-the-cw-open-to-comedies-procedurals-remakes-superheroes/

We shall see. :)

Okay, well, I've been watching the original on DVD on and off, and, well...

I remember liking it for the romantic melodrama and morality plays back in the 80s. Maybe I've changed since then. I'm finding it VERY hard to watch as I go thru the second season. It got really saccarine and preachy.

What would a new version bring to the table? And, ya know, why bother?

Well,

I never saw this during it's original run. I have a vague memory of a David Letterman's joke after it was cancealed in it's third season that "it was only a show people". :) As indication of it's cult status. Hmmm, a note worthy series lasting only three years which established "cult" stasis, now that reminds me of something, but I digress. ;) I am watching this now, still in the first season, and Loving it! :techman: But not to jump on the band wagon of crankiness, however after the failed remake of Night Rider a few years back, remakes of Hawaii 5-0, Rockford Files, now the remaking of Charlie's Angels and talk of Magnum P.I.; I am sour on this whole trend. :vulcan: These were products of their time but the producers now do not get the 'time'. I say no.

I don't remember too much of the original TV series...but I think the CW is desperate to get shows that work...I am guessing they will lose alot after this TV season. The network needs a miracle unless they are happy with shows getting under 2-3 million viewers...anything under 2 million just isn't going to be worth it. :sigh:

Fairy Tales seem to be the new fad these days: we got Twilight knock-offs of Little Red Riding Hood and Beauty and the Beast, two versions of Sleeping Beauty out soon, and another movie take on Beauty and the Beast out soon too.

The latter is going to have Gullermo Del Toro, so it might be worth it.
