Beating Control at a game of chess.

This is my thread every on TrekBBS, but here goes:

I've read a lot of critics wondering that since Discovery has a spore drive it could have been taken anywhere in the universe, thus affording easy escape from Control and even being sent to the future without having to take the risk of getting into a fight. But I think the better question is, what is the benefit of Discovery sitting right where it is, where the Federation is concerned, looking pretty much alone and vulnerable.

What do people think? Is this criminally stupid/insane? Or is it a Garry Kasparov gambit?

It sounds very TOS.

And then the captain talks Control into a state of self-contradictory confusion, causing it to go into electronic meltdown.

Beating this version of Control? It's a game of checkers versus a pigeon compared to beating the novel version (especially seeing as the novel version actually won, and got everything it wanted except for the extremely high death toll during the Borg invasion of 2381.)

If there's a metaphoric way of throwing a tantrum and tipping the board, and pieces, arse over tit then that's a way of confusing Control into submission.
