Beam Out Visual Effects Test

Well, I had some extra time tonight, so I play around in After Effects trying to replicate the transporter effect seen in the second Star Trek XI trailer. Here is a still and video below.

Now that is cool!

The new effect somewhat reminds me of the Cardassian transporter effect from DS9. I loved that.

Very nice. My only advice would be to watch out for any motion in your background plate. I might be wrong but it looks like the same vehicle can be seen through the trees 3-4 times. Not a big deal, especially since this is just a test. I'm actually thinking now that since it is a test, you didn't pay attention to the background too much but would for a finished scene so...disregard this entire post.

Edit: Well not the whole post. I think to replicate the XI transporter effect, the particles should be a little bigger, and more wispy. The quick shot we see in the trailer seems to be less densely packed with the swirling particles.
