BBC Three Cancels Mongrels

BBC3’s comedy puppet show, Mongrels, will not return to the channel for a third series.

One of the show’s voice actors, Dan Tetsell, announced its cancellation on Twitter, saying: “If you were (like me) hoping Mongrels would get a 3rd series, I’ve got some bad news…”

He followed up that tweet with an answer to a user’s question about whether the series had been canned, saying: “Yeah, we've all been sacked now.”

The show's creator, Adam Miller, followed Tetsell’s comments with a longer statement confirming that Mongrels would not return, which said:

“Mongrels friends, it is my unbearably sad duty to announce that we will not be returning for a third series on BBC THREE, a decision that has been made based on the fact that apparently you need more than two people watching a programme to make it successful. Crazy talk.

"I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at BBC Comedy, BBC THREE and BBC Worldwide who have supported us so strongly…over the years, and helped us put our silly puppet show on the digital screens of the nation."

Shame, I really enjoyed Mongrels it was one of my favourite new comedies in years.

Oh, that's a shame about Mongrels. I really liked that show. One of the best things on BBC Three.

Still think my idea is best for contributing towards the 20% cost savings the Beeb needs to make. Cut the number of Eastenders episodes by 20%.

Urgh. That show was pretty much the only thing I watched on BBC3, especially after Doctor Who Confidential got the cut.

They may as well just kill BBC 3, and 4 altogether, and beef up a BBC iPlayer exclusive online channel for new content which needs proofing before switching to BBC 1 or 2.

Alternatly merge BBC3 & 4 content into one channel and for what was BBC4 have either a timeshifted BBC1 or a Best of the last week BBC channel that shows reruns of BBC1-3 that weak.

I see a new TV reality show coming from all of this, where viewers vote for which TV show will be scrapped.
And it can be hosted by Gregg Wallace. Budgeting doesn't get tougher than this. :bolian:

Personally I think it's a combination of the cuts and the new channel controller, he's seeing it as a chance to get rid of stuff so anything successful can be his rather than the channel or the previous controllers success. Looks like Fades won't get a new series and Being Human are for the chop. They only want 1 drama. I'm not one for the cut BBC Three altogether idea, but what's the point of having it if they're not going to produce anything?

Hence if they're going to be happy as a pig in shit to cancel everything and replace it with reality TV, why bother?

Just what we need another channel filled with reality shows, might as well go the whole hog and have it 24hrs of non stop reality/make over shows. It'll give me an exurse to dig out a DVD.

About the only reality type show I watch is "The Apprentice". SO much fun to watch them go on about how this task is right up their field of expertise only to fail.
