Long-running sitcom hit My Family is to be axed by the BBC after 11 years.
The series, which stars Robert Lindsay and Zoe Wanamaker as Ben and Susan Harper, has run for more than 100 episodes.
But executives thought it was time to move on now the couple's three children have left the family home.
I thought this show had already ended, I stopped watching years ago.

Yeah I saw this on the BBC site this morning and my first thought too was 'that's still going?'
I presume it's not the same kids as when it started, they'll be getting mortgages and worrying about their cholesterol by now.

Never watched it after Kris Marshall left to stretch his acting skills in cheesy BT commercials.

Count me in with those who thought this had ended already. We used to get early seasons of "My Family" on YTV here in Canada. Loved the early seasons with Nick, when he left the show kind of got boring.

As I intimated upthread, he left to do TV commercials for a telecommunications company. One of those long-running off-on soap opera type ad series. Coincidentally enough, that ad series is also coming to an end this year, with the wedding of the two main characters (Kris Marshall being one of them).

I sense the My Family team wanted to make bloody sure they stuck around long enough to outlast the ads. :D

I see. I've seen him in other film and television projects though as well so I can't imagine that he left only to do commercials. He plays a character similar to Nick in "Love, Actually" and was in some English lawyer drama that I can't recall.

He was in a cop show too.

I liked this show. thought the daughter was cute and could relate to the dad. But it palled after a while. I suppose despite the change in cast it never seemed to go anywhere.

I think it is the same kids - sans Kris Marshall - and that's *why* it's ending... cos they've grown up and gone, so the show has run its course.

I only ever watched the first episode though, so don't give a shit...

According to the TV review guy I heard on the radio yesterday... "The youngest kid has been to uni, graduated uni and shacked up with his boyfriend." I think the last time I saw it he was early teens. I didn't realise it was still going. Wasn't really my cup of tea, I do hope they don't replace it with anything like Two Pints though. That is stratosphericly bad.

They filmed a last series and split that into series 10 and 11.

It's still the same actors that were there at the start of the show, only their characters have grown up, gotten knocked-up, left home, and came back, got married, had a divorce, have come out of the closet.
Susan and Ben are still (more or less) the same though.

Having never heard of this show before now, the fact it's ending doesn't mean a lot to me, but it does help to explain why such a big deal was made when Zoe Wanamaker made her guest appearances on Doctor Who, as I personally only knew her from her bit part in the first Harry Potter movie.

Which is referenced once or twice in My Family.

You should try and get the first three series at least. Those are perhaps the best of the whole show.

I think Kris Marshall has been working in the US.
I know he's in a show called traffic light, don't know if its cable or network or if its a hit anyone here heard of it?

Yet another who didn't know it was still going here. All I've ever seen are a few reruns (I think?) and I thought it had ended years ago.

When were they actually running it anyway? I never noticed it on any schedule.

I knew it was still going because they have a Christmas specil every year. I have watched it every now and then, hoping they'd bring Nick back, but it never happened.

He was in a cop show too.

Murder City on ITV for 10 episodes and 2 seasons between 2004 & 2006. I remember the 1st season and I liked it but I though it was cancelled because of the gap between seasons. I might try and re-watch it one day cause I can only remember the pilot where the killer used blind spots in the cameras to navigate through a building unseen.

Its on FOX and DEAD after just 1 short season.
