Spoilers Batwoman - Season 1

I figured the upcoming Arrowverse show deserved a thread of its own since first casting news have come out, and the pilot will likely start shooting sometime soonish.

I've preemptively put a whole Season in the title, all things considered I'd say it's a fairly safe bet the show will be picked up. :techman:

So what do we know so far... the show's pilot will be written by Caroline Dries, who will also serve as showrunner, and it will be directed by David Nutter.

Ruby Rose stars as Kate Kane/Batwoman, openly lesbian former soldier, Bruce Wayne's cousin, who dons the cape in Batman's absence to protect the city of Gotham from all sorts of baddies.

She's joined by Meagan Tandy in the role of Sophie Moore, Kate's ex-girlfriend from West Point, Camrus Johnson as Luke Fox, son of Lucius Fox and Batwing in the comics, and Nicole Kang as Mary Hamilton, her step-sister, who seems to be based on Bette Kane, Kate's cousin and also a vigilante called Flamebird.

Based on the "casting sheets" that got released online months ago, more casting news should be coming soon for Kate's sister Elizabeth, their father Jacob, and stepmother Mrs. Hamilton-Kane (Mary's mother).

Also, the character description for Sophie Moore as she'll be depicted here doesn't mention anything about her being Kate's ex, so you might want to "snip" that bit.

The comics version is, and I think it was mentioned in the original casting call.

Wonder if we'll get Kate's other sister, "Alice," from the comics.

We will, though not played by Ruby apparently, since this casting call went out:

A 27-year old Caucasian who is Batwoman’s greatest enemy, basically her own personal Joker. Alexa is a woman who has experienced a tremendous amount of trauma in her more sensitive years. That has in turn caused Alexa to divorce herself from reality by living in a fantastical world where she is the star. Attached to Victorian attire, Alexa is a charming lunatic who manages to go from being psychotic to caring easily, which is why her unreliable behavior is a dangerous weapon in itself.

Which is pretty much her.

^And the names in casting calls like that are usually changed to conceal the characters' identities, although it's usually easy to guess. Most likely "Alexa" is just a cover name for Alice.

With another CW DC show coming, what will be the first of them to get canceled, and how can they make it work without disrupting the shared universe?

I don't see how it would disrupt the shared universe, I don't really see where any of the shows need any of the others to exist.

This would also be a good time for DC to approach Rucka to do another Batwoman comic and finish what he started.

If you're referring to the infamous banned marriage, that was Williams and Blackman who quit.
Rucka never actually wrote her solo title, he only did the short run in Detective Comics with her as the lead.

Well they'd need to explain why some character is missing from crossovers for one. I suppose a show doesn't have to be canceled, it could finish, with some kind of character exit...

They could easily cancel Arrow as a show, and have some characters move to a different one. With ARGUS being featured in Flash as well, Diggle could become a steady guest character.

Even if a show ends and some characters aren't regulars anymore I don't see a reason why they wouldn't be able to pop up on a crossover show, or just an occasional guest appearance on the other shows.

I could see ARGUS fitting into Batwoman, since it would probably fill the darker, more grounded niche of Arrow. Although it'd be interesting to see an ARGUS arc in Legends of Tomorrow, given that Zari's from a possible future where ARGUS is evil and imprisons metahumans. (A path they're already on, apparently, since AMAZO in Elseworlds was an ARGUS experiment built to hunt down metas.)

The solo was written for New 52. The Rucka stories with JH WIlliams were what established the character and her background and it was left unfinished due to various problems between him and DC Management over the issue of Earth One Wonder Woman (that he wanted).

I only read Elegy, and I know there were a few more issues in that DC run, but I didn't know that was interrupted as well.
