What I've been working on for the past few days: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20389014/1371a.png http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20389014/1371b.png http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20389014/1371c.png http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20389014/1371d.png http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20389014/1371e.png http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20389014/1371f.png Try and ID the three aerospace vehicles I used in this. Only one is real. If you can't, I used the C-57D for the saucer, the HL-10 Lifting Body for the stardrive hull (clipping the aft end's fins) and I used the engines from the Discovery One for the impulse deck. Hey that's pretty cool. I saw the name and was hoping it was from the old SFC. A while back I was messing with the Marshall/Patton (not much luck, ended up looking like the Serentiy universe had a head on collision with Star Warz...yeah, kinda scary, ) Anyway, I like how you've re-interpreted the design, really like your take on the double pylon strut things. And, nothing wrong with "kit-bashing" (The discovery engines are a cool idea).
Very impressive! You have successfully taken a concept that was left behind in the 1980's, never acknowledged in literature since about 1984, and re-invented it to suit more recent design sensibilities. While I'm not sure it could pass as a "missing link" between ENT's NX-01 Enterprise and the Connies of the 23rd century, it is still a very inspiring exercise. One question: how thick is the outer rim section of the saucer; one deck, or more? Keep up the good work.
The rim is actually two-thirds of a deck. I wanted to preserve the contours of the C-57D while maintaining the scale I wanted. I'll post a cross section sometime.
