used some plans/ pics that vance did as a guide as all I had before was a aft view of the Baton Rouge.

hopefully will have a cuople more designs based off the Baton Rouge in time. half way thruogh a Baton rouge era miranda at present

Yes, it was Goldstein & Goldstein's "Star Trek Spaceflight Chronology" from 1980. An interesting take on the Baton Rouge. Maybe it's just me and my sense of symmetry, but I think your Cook-class destroyer would look more balanced with a second nacelle above the saucer, kinda like the above-and-below-arrangement of Picard's Stargazer.

I see what you mean about the cook. But I see her as the Baton Rouge era version of FASA's Saladin class. might do a second version with the second nacelle soon

Correction: You mean Franz Joseph's Saladin class. The Saladin was not included in the FASA materials due to copywrite restrictions.

Not entirely true. The Saladin is described and detailed, albeit with no artwork, in the Four Years War supplement. It's clearly an homage, but not an infringment since the registered design didn't actually appear.

The issue wasn't copyright, but licensing. The rights to the Saladin, Hermes, and so on, for gaming, were tied into Star Fleet Battles already. Can't have the same ship appear in two competing products...

At any rate, FASA decided to avoid the whole issue and just make their own replacements. The Nelson effectively replaced the Hermes, and the Larson effectively replaced the Saladin. They never made a DN to replace the Federation, however.

Huh. You know, I remember thinking "licensing" when I was typing my post. Oh well. You got what I was trying to say.

As for The Four Years War, I just thumbed through it and found no reference to the Saladin. Where did you find that? Maybe it was mentioned in Return to Axanar which IIRC was packaged with FYW. Sadly I don't have the Fed Ship Recognition Manual but I'd surprised to see them there.

I include the FYW and RtA as just the FYW supplments, 'cause I can't keep all the internals straight. The ships of the Technical Manual, as well as the Starship Chronology are mentioned (in passing) in the timeline as coming around the introduction of the Constitution class.

I hope NOT to hijack the thread, but this whole Four Wars War sidebar has got my attention. So I looked through the timeline part you mentioned and I think I see our confusion. The Ptolemy and Hermes are mentioned, but Saladin and Federation are not. Of course, the only visible difference between the Saladin and the Hermes was the destroyer had more guns, so I suppose the scout could included in at least a spiritual sense.

Anyhow, Galactic Squirrel, do you plan to detail these any further or are finished here? Any plans to do a Baton Rouge era Miranda, Nebula, Ptolemy, or anything else? Could be interesting. And simple enough given the parts you've already built.

Was the Saladin the one skipped? I thought the Siva is mentioned, and Cochise show up during the war itself... strangeness. FASA actually threatened to secure the visual rights to the ship WITHIN THE BOOK, but never actually did.

I think what made me think the Saladin was a fasa design is that I got the pic from the ststcs site. and for got to read the back ground properly
defiantly got plans for a Baton Rouge miranda might try having a go at a bit more detail though maybe not too much seeing as the tos era ships didnt seem to have much until tmp era.

Ptolemy? thats a tug isnt it? sure I'll give that one a go.
