Bashir Changeling Earlier Than "RAPTURE"?

I don't think the writers gave much thought to when Bashir was replaced by a changeling until Purgatorys Shadow and thought it would be a great plot point. Memory Alpha is pretty contradicted on this point.
There is a line in the episode stating he was captured at a point relatively recent, a lot more recent than Rapture. IIRC, having Bashir wearing the old uniform style was a last minute decision because everyone felt it would be "neat."

Right, because "Fake O'brien" in season 2 (or 3?) confused the viewers. It makes sense, it just kind of contradicts the time period for the uniform change. RDM head-cannoned that Bashir was captured before Rapture, although as noted the easiest resolution is that Bashir was simply wearing his old uniform that day.

I have a rock-solid headcannon conviction that the Bashir Changeling swap happened between "Ascent" and "Rapture." I know it wasn't actually planned, but "Rapture" and "The Begotten" become so much more interesting if it's the Changeling. And the uniform choice really does telegraph the intent of the creative staff, that feels like the most intentional choice they made with the reveal, so that's what I'm going with.

I'd go along with the "he grabbed an old uniform to use as pajamas" fanwank... if it were the male skant from season 1 TNG. Now, there is a uniform that looked ready for a second life as sleepwear.

It's that reasoning for "THE BEGOTTEN" that makes the line by the Female Changeling to Odo that "they have forgiven him" look very much like the baby Changeling merging with Odo seem intentional on the part of the Founders.

Which is deeper in my headcanon than the wire was in Garak's...

Other unstated tidbits regarding that matter:

- The red-clad Bajoran girl touching Odo just before his collapse in "Broken Link" was an agent of the Founders, bringing the punishment to Odo. Perhaps an unwitting disease vector, perhaps a Founder infiltrator herself. But Odo's collapse was not randomly timed - it was engineered this way.

- It also ironically saved Odo's life, as his time as a solid zeroed the ticking clock of the S31 bioweapon for which he inturn had been the unwitting vector. For all we know, the solidity punishment even cured him for good, until he got it again as a STD from the Female Founder dueing the second occupation.

- The station was always teeming with Founders, especially at those times when the heroes applied those "security measures" suggested by the Founders themselves. It was only by sheer chance that only one remained with Odo when the wormhole was slammed shut first in "Call to Arms" and again in "Sacrifice of Angels". "Bashir" had plenty of company to cover his back...
