Baseball 2026: RIP Mr Laser Beam

Some team, any team, should have traded the literal farm for Skubal, just so the fucking Dodgers couldn't land him. I would've even supported collusion between other teams to guarantee it.
The problem with that is everyone knew Skubal would just end up signing for the Dodgers in the offseason anyway, so there's no point in giving up prospects for a 2-3 month rental.

Blue Jays trade RHP Kevin Gausman to the Cubs for prospects OF Brett Bateman and INF Ty Southisene.

Nationals trade INF Luis Garcia to the Yankees for four RHPs -- Yovanny Cruz, Jake Bird, Ben Grable and Jack Cebert.

Giants trade RHP Tyler Mahle to the Braves for prospect RHP Anthony Molina.

The WPBL recently wrapped up its inaugural opening weekend:

For the 2026 season, all four teams - the Boston Hunters, the Los Angeles Queens, the New York Heights, and the San Francisco Firebells - are sharing a "neutral" stadium in Springfield, Illinois. (In case anyone is wondering, the choice of team names is explained here.)

The league intends to move these teams to dedicated "home" venues in future seasons, as well as to consider expanding the number of teams.

Games are being carried in the U.S. by ESPN Select and by Scripps Sports Network, and internationally on the league YouTube channel.

I should note that there has been some... less-than-positive feedback on the quality of the initial broadcast presentation. But, to be fair, it's still a fledgling organization, so hopefully they can iron things out as the season progresses.

Trade deadline day.

Giants trade three-time batting champion 2B Luis Arraez to the Phillies.

Angels trade RHP Jose Soriano to the Blue Jays.

Angels trade OF Jo Adell to the Guardians for C Jacob Cozart.

Orioles trade OF Taylor Ward to the Mariners.

Mets trade LHP Brooks Raley to the Phillies.

Rockies trade CF Brenton Doyle to the White Sox.

Rumor has the Orioles trading C Adley Rutschman to the Red Sox pending a physical.

Marlins trade C, 1B, DH Liam Hicks to the Rays.

Giants trade RHP Robbie Ray to the Padres.

Royals trade LHP Kris Bubic (who is hurt and an upcoming free agent) to the Dodgers. I guess if any team can take a flier on a player without it negatively affecting them if it doesn't pan out, it's them.

Rangers try to trade RHP Jacob deGrom but he invokes his no-trade clause. The team has also asked SS Corey Seager and RHP Nathan Eovaldi about waiving their no-trade clauses.

Taylor Trammell rounds the bases thinking his deep flyout was a home run.

At least he got some exercise

Cubs completed a 3 game sweep of those damn Dodgers, so I'm happy about that.

The Mariners' best chance was two years ago when the starting pitching was off the charts elite but they didn't do enough to improve the offense. And then last year was wasted because their manager is not a manager.

Jefry Yan, a 29-year-old rookie who was out of the game for four years (and had Tommy John recovery the season before those four), likes to jump extremely high in the air when he gets a strikeout. You think someone on the other team is going to take that personally with his "unwritten rules"?

If I was the Mets, I’d be worried about him injuring himself.

The left-for-dead Red Sox are now soaring. The scorching hot Marlins have frozen to death. The rebuilding White Sox are in first place. Last year's AL darlings Blue Jays and Mariners are pathetic. The Dodgers have lost seven in a row.

What's next?

Yeah. The rumors are starting to swirl that the Mariners are going to get rid of Dan Wilson sooner rather than later.
On paper, with the players the Mariners have, they should be leading the division; yet, everyone has underperformed.

Someone joked online that if they could, the Mariners would make their 2001 AL West Champions banner (116 wins!) the manager.

Rational Jays fans saw it coming, but too many are still on the kool-aid because in a dreadful AL wild card, they are three games back.
