I have now seen them (they were on TV recently, figured what is the worse that can happen)
Band Camp
3 characters from the movies, thats a good start, ok one has been recast but that wasnt a big problem really, locations from the movie reused, great this really does feel like its an American Pie sequel.
and the plot, what I cant work out is why at this disgusting little pervert, who films women in the showers (he makes the guys in the movie trilogy seem "innocent" be comparison) yet some how you end up routing for him to get the girl, and join the band geeks, rather than for him to be locked up. Ive seen enough Criminal Minds to know that, that kind of behaviour is not a good sign in one so young.
There are a couple of amusing new characters, the black guy & the chick who has a fetish for metal, but the whole filming women in the showers thing really over shadows this movie, and there is not nearly enough nudity (but I was watching it on TV so it could have been edited)
Naked Mile
this actually starts out as a shinning return to form for the franchise, yes it is more or less totally empty of anything that appeared in the movie trilogy, and all that is left is the Stiffler name & Eugene Levy, but in a way it kinda works, the young Eric Stiffler is not a disgusting little pervert and is just on a quest to loose his virginity. Any time he & his girl get together is great viewing.
However the movie has two problems
1) the midgets, midgets really? were they testing the theory "everythings better with midgets"
2) the "hard on world champions" maybe all of that comes to something in Beta House, but in this movie the whole sequence was far to long and you end up realising you just watch 20 minutes of 3 young, naked fairly buff men, playing games with there penis, that is not why people watch American Pie movies.
If you were to loose that entire sequence the movie would actually be half decent, but that didnt happen.
alot of the situations strike me as 12A rated porn (without the naughty bits) college girls who like to fuck virgins (yeah that's really realistic) the dominatrix (nice reference to the 3rd movie) good lord that vibrator thing was odd, and the midget sex, but none of this is that far off the movie trilogy.
call me a romantic sucker, but I love that Erik went back to his gf, who had a Gwyneth Paltrow look to her (if she was younger & just skin on top of bones, no muscle no fat in between) who really should have gone up to the college campus to find Erik, rather than going with the ex.
Dwight Stifler is pretty much a rehash of Steve, but whilst he is mostly responsible for the whole "hard on world champions" sequence he has a part to play in this movie
over all, whilst im not overly impressed with either movie, Naked Mile has alot of good points, and could have been a much better film than it was, it had a half decent cast (who might make a good outing in Beta House, not that I would ever buy the DVD) its the best of the two
