Baldur's Gate

Hi everyone, I'll try and keep this short. In an effort to save money atm I'm going back through my old games to find something to play. One such game is, as you can probably guess from the title Baldurs Gate. Now I was never very good at this game and never completed it, nor the sequel (I got them both in a cheap box set a while back.)

So what I'm asking is for any general hints tip and so forth to get me started, nothing specific just what you consider the easier classes, weather I should invite everyone into my party or set up some sort of strict screening process etc etc

thanks in advance

Class-wise the best would be human fighter for the first game with stats:

STR 18/00 (ideally)
DEX 11 (later boosted to 18 with Gauntlets of Dexterity)
INT 10
WIS 10
CHR 18

Companion-wise, if you want to maintain story continuity, (i.e. who is with you at the start of BG2) go with Imoen, Jaheira, Khalid, Minsc, and Dynaheir. Otherwise there are few better choices out there. Be sure to dual class Imoen into a mage.

For the second game I really like running the paladin subclass inquisitor. They specialize in fighting magic users (has a dispel magic ability), and believe me you'll be fighting a LOT of them in BG2. You can also pick up an inqusitor companion, Keldorn, and between the two of you you'll be going though nasty stuff like sorcerers and liches like butter. Also, although the paladin classes don't get a stronghold like the other classes, they get access to bar none the best weapon in the game, the Holy Avenger.

Being a paladin type, I like to surround myself with the "goodest" people I can so I usually adventure with Aerie, Anomen, Keldorn, Mazzy, and Yoshimo (replaced later by Imoen) Anomen's rather a whiner at the start, but the knight/squire dynamic between Keldorn and him is fun, and he can get a stat upgrade if you make the right choices in his storyline.

Oh, and do a Google search for Dan Simpson's Baldur's Gate FAQ's. Probably the most thorough sources of info on the games out there.
