Bajoran Earrings

DataLives

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
Hello,

If I recall correctly, in STNG, female Bajorans wore earrings in the left ear, males on the right.

In DS9, all wear earrings in the right ear.

Is this a mistake? Or does it just not matter what ear is used?

DataLives.

PS: We are thoroughly enjoying the series! Just started Season 2

Ro Laren wears hers on the wrong side as a sign of her rejection of Bajoran traditions. Her preference is personal, and not to be construed as any sort of cultural norm. She also said she does it to keep the Vediks from grabbing her ear... or was that in one of the novels?

^ It was novel "Avatar" in the DS9 relaunch that gave that reason, I think.

While this wasn't the case with Ro Laren in the later seasons of DS9 wearing the earring in the left ear was a sign of worshipping the Pah-Wraiths.

The pah-wraith worshippers wore red earrings sometimes too (that looked like they were made out of plasticine >_> <_<)

I am so glad I had somewhere to turn. :bolian:

Thank you!

I think I have a new, favourite, quote:

"Phasers on stun, Mister O'Brien. I want those voles taken alive."
