Hey guys. Im new to star trek and just finnished watching Deep space nine. My first trek show. Im now into voyager and enjoying it. Im on season 2 and just watched tattoo. Good episode!

My condolences.

Rest assured that most of the bad episodes are so unmemorable that you won't remember them in a month or so. :)

Always look at the bright side!

Welcome, and have fun with Voyager!

Don't listen to the nay-sayers, Voyager is rather cool and infinitely more enjoyable than many people would have you believe. Sure, it ain't DS9 - but then again, what is? (DS9, that's what is.)

Welcome, and there are more Voyager fans around than you'd think (I even knew some when it was first broadcast on US TV). I've been pleasantly surprised on other sites to see how many Voyager fans there are, lol. Anyway, enjoy the many good episodes and well, just fast forward or skip over which ever episodes you don't like, & I think there's fun in store!

Some would say Babylon 5 ;)

Enjoy Voyager. Despite all the naysayers I've seen, I do like Voyager quite a bit, even though I like TNG and DS9 more. I'd probably put Voyager 3rd though.

Welcome, but if you are on season 2 already, surely you have a few opinions yourself!

Like...

Who's your fav character?

How many different Janeway hairstyles have you noticed so far?

What's your fav ep so far?

Chakotay is my fav. And tattoo is my fav so far. The episodes are getting better and better this season! Season 2 is killing season 1. THough I really liked demons and heroes from season 1.

prototype was a very cool show! Could have been a self contained movie. A lot of depth behind this episode. What do you think?

I'm going to have to dust off the dvd's and watch it again from beginning to end one of these days. I like season 5 best, though.

kalskylander it only gets better and better..
But only if you stop after season 5.

Season 6 had the longest "mid-season average to dull stretch" of all Treks, and while season 7 is a general improvement, the finale is a spectacular disappointment.

Well Art.. I always say I loved the characters of VOY the most. A slow ep, a dull ep, an odd ep.. still has my most beloved characters in it. I found plenty to love in the whole series. And to be honest I find the slowest VOY ep doesn't compare to the preachy dullness of a lot of TNG. VOY is colorful. Lots is always going on, humor infuses it.

teacake, I hate having this thread drift off into another direction, but hopefully the OP will forgive me for replying to you.

I love Voyager, and I have watched the series over and over and over. However, I think that characterisations were not its strongest suit. Compared to DS9, the characters were lacking in depth, development and consistency:

  • The character of Harry Kim went nowhere, and so did Chakotay. After seven years, those guys were still exactly where they began.
  • Write down everything we learned about Kes, Neelix, Harry, Janeway, Chakotay. Then write down what we learned about O'Brien, Kira, Bashir, Odo. Compare the length of those individual essays.
  • I loved how Janeway's strong moral compass stranded them in the Delta Quadrant, and how that same compass led to the strict orders she issued when they met the Sikarians. It's just too bad that later on, she abandoned her principles when it served her crew. Janeway in Tuvix and especially Admiral Janeway are not the same person that appeared in Caretaker and Prime Factors. That's not development, that's a randomly changed premise.
Also, humour on DS9 was darker and more sarcastic (if you overlook the "hilarity" of the later Ferengi episodes). To me at least, much more sophisticated and funny, although Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy had me in stitches. Well, Bob Picardo in general has that effect.

Now, when it came to exciting sci-fi stories with anomalies! aliens! time travel! and that special Trek flavour, that's where Voyager scored, and that's why I always turn to it when I'm not in the mood for war stories or brooding drama.

For me, that's backwards except for the finale thing. I love a good chunk of 6 and don't like several bits of 7.

Everyone's got their opinions, though.

Admiral Janeway was 20+ years along from the events of Caretaker and Prime Factors and a hell of a lot more bitter (and she actually broke the PD in Caretaker.) I'd hope she'd be a different person. Tuvix, well, that's another long debate. :P

Anyways, Voyager characters are still the ones I like best as well.
